As you all know me and Jon run our own photography company which means we do most of our work from our home office, which happens to be situated across the back wall of our living room. We have a huge wooden topped desk made from an Ikea kitchen work top and Ikea kitchen cabinets, sounds random but it was the best way for us to get a really large work space for the two of us, and it perfectly fits the available space we had. It’s also a great crafting and blogging space for me and allows us to be organised and have the ability to interact with each other when we need to.
Working from home sounds like a dream to most people, and it can be great, but it can also be super difficult to focus on work rather than procrastinate doing stuff around the house, or get distracted by other things (especially with the little dudes arrival). That is why having a calm and productive work space can be really important, me and Jon have got some tips and tricks we use to allow us to get work done even with a 7 month old whirl wind in the room. Recently the people at Ellisons asked me what I thought would be the big beauty trends for 2017…and I laughed! Now if you’d asked me that 2 years ago (even as someone who wears very little make-up) I would have easily been able to answer you as I’d have read the latest Elle, Vogue and Marie Claire magazine and I will have seen a huge ton of the catwalks from this season. Now I’m a busy mum with an active 7 month old, trying to run a blog and a photography company, I am lucky if I open a magazine let alone get to read one cover to cover like I used to.
But it did get me thinking about the reality of beauty trends when you are a time strapped mum and I came up with a few things I think will be huge beauty trends with mums for 2017. How many of you mummies can relate! (Please note I mean this as a comic post!) Continue reading →
Well Elian is at that age where he is starting to show signs of teething. Lots of his little friends already have teeth but my cheeky chap doesn’t seem to be actually cutting any quite yet, but he loves to chew! On everything and anything! This has been going on for well over 2 months now, probably since he was about 4 months old (he’s 7 months now!!) It started with him wanting to chew on everyones finger, not just family but pretty much any human in reachable distance! So to help him with the chewing and teething pain we have collected quite a little collection of teething toys. Some he takes to well, others lay in his toy box unused, here are our top 5 teething toys. If your little one is suffering bad and you want to find something to help ease their pain then consider one of these great teething toys.
Opie is a crazy pooch, as are the majority of cocker spaniels, but he is also rather destructive! Luckily he grew out of destroying most things pretty quickly, and now only usually destroys his own dog toys (and the occasional letter that comes through the post box). A lot of the time dogs get destructive when they get bored (or when they are teething as puppies) so its really important to entertain them through play or with dog toys they can play with when your not around. We learnt this pretty quickly with Opie and when he was a puppy we spent a lot of time playing with him, and training him to return to us with the use of a squeaky ball. Continue reading →
Can you believe Elian is 7 months old already, time seriously flies when you become a parent! So for the last month we have been testing the waters of baby-led weaning, no doubt you’ll have seen his messy face on our Instagram or Facebook Page, or you might have caught little dude tasting some of his first foods over on our YouTube channel! I’m not going to explain baby-led weaning as the link above will do it far better, but it pretty much means you don’t give babies pureed food, instead you give them soft finger foods to start with and progress upwards onto normal foods as they begin to develop chewing, teeth and hand/eye coordination.
So far he has tried out a whole host of foods from banana and raspberries, to broccoli, melon, pasta and scrambled eggs, and I can hand on heart say he has happily eaten and enjoyed everything. The only issue I now have is trying to come up with new things for him to try so he doesn’t get bored of eating the same thing everyday! He currently only has breakfast and tea (just small portions as he is still breastfeeding) but I have now started to look for actual recipes for him, rather than just giving him fruit and cooked veg. If your looking for baby lead weaning breakfast ideas, or a healthy snack my Banana and Peanut Butter breakfast muffin recipe could be a perfect choice. Continue reading →
As it’s a new year and undoubtedly at least 50% of the population has made the resolution to try and lose weight this year (me included!) I thought I would make the first recipe post of 2017 a slimming world recipe. So here is my Slimming World minced beef hash recipe. This is a hearty, simple and filling recipe that I made for me and Jon just before Christmas, using the extra lean mince beef that we had in our Musclefoods hamper. It’s syn free on the current Slimming World plan and you can pack in lots of free or super free veggies. It’s also a great recipe to make at the end of the shopping week to help you use up any stray veg in your fridge as you can add pretty much any vegetables you have lying around (within reason obviously, not too sure an artichoke or avocado would work!) It’s a firm favourite with all the family in the Two Hearts household and I’ve no doubt Elian will be trying it soon too.
It has been so lovely seeing all the little cuties in their trendy outfits linking up with mine and Leanne’s new #MyTrendyTot Instagram community over the past week. I’ve loved seeing all the different styles and fun outfits we chose to dress our children in and it’s made my job of choosing my favs for this first week super difficult! But I finally made a decision and below you’ll see my first #MyTrendyTot stars.
My own little trendy tot has been wearing his new mouse dressing gown lots this week, paired here with his Aeroplane Pyjamas from TKMaxx. Cute and cozy which has been perfect for our stay in Bluestone over the last week which was a little bit nippy but very relaxing!
Over the last few months I have been enjoying instagram more and more, not sure if it’s because I am a professional photographer (Weddings and Newborns are my day to day job!) or just because its so quick and easy (and I kind of like to be nosy and see what peoples real lives are like). Pictures play such a huge part in mine and Jons life, and even though we spend our days taking photos of people, the majority of the time it doesn’t feel like work, so we still love to take photos outside of work too.
