I really do love to cook, but sadly don’t always have a lot of time to do it when we are working lots. But when I get the chance I love to experiment with new dishes and often don’t cook the same thing twice. I love to find new recipes online or in one of my many many cookbooks. So the idea of being sent recipes and cooking packs in the mail sounded great.
When Simply Cook offered to send me some of their home cooking packs to try out I jumped at the chance, it literally sounded right up my street. Each month they will send you 4 simple healthy recipes and 12 flavour packs (spices, pastes, oils, etc) to help you make them. You add the fresh ingredients and get super tasty, restaurant quality meals at home. Your first box arrives with a selection of 4 dishes for you to try then after that you can choose (or not if you rather) which recipes you want to try in your next box. The list of recipes they have is always changing and expanding as their chefs work on new ideas, but the list they have currently is huge, impressive and varied. They also cater to gluten free and other dietary requirements. The box is £10 a month (you will find a cook for 90% off your first box at the bottom!) which I think is totally worth the value considering buying most of the ingredients to make these packs would cost you way more than that at he supermarket if you had to buy full sized jars, etc.
So first up we decided to try the Cajun Chicken with Sweet Potato Mash. OMG it was yummy, like seriously yummy. The winner for me was actually the sweet potato mash, the pack comes with a roasted red pepper paste to stir through you sweet potato mash and you add crispy bacon and feta to it…genius! (It should have had courgette too but hubby does like it) I will be trying this myself again, it was so tasty and totally changed the taste of the sweet potato for the better, adding so many different dimensions to the flavour. The chicken was just the right side of spicy for me (mild!) but packed with flavour. Both me and Jon loved the whole meal and wolfed the lot down. I added sweetcorn and the red onion bread myself and they worked well together.I think simply cook is a great idea if you aren’t a great cook and want to expand your cooking skills as these are all really simple recipes but give great results. Plus if you aren’t a fan of a certain ingredient they suggest you always have the option to omit it like we did with the courgette, or if you want a different meat its your choice, so it is really flexible for your own tastes. Also great if you just love cooking like I do. You get the chance to try out such a variety of recipes that you may never have thought to cook yourself, and you don’t have to buy whole pots of spices and pastes that you may never end up using again, this way you get perfectly sized little pots and nothing is wasted.
