Making Toilet Roll Ugly Bugs
This term in school (even though Elian isn’t actually IN school!) Elian’s class are studying minibeasts, and it just happens that this week is bumblebees! So we have been looking at the letter B, counting bees, watching some videos on bees pollinating and collecting honey, learning about their home and their life cycle and listening to his teacher, Miss Mac, read some bee related stories.
Last week you may have seen on our instagram stories we made a toilet roll bumblebee to join our collection of toilet roll ugly bugs. I will be blogging all our toilet roll crafts so keep your eyes peeled for our Ladybird, Butterfly, Caterpillar, Ant and Dragonfly crafts too. But for today its all about our toilet roll bumblebee, who is pretty blinking cute!

What you will need to make your toilet roll bumblebee
- Toilet Roll
- Yellow Poster Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Black Felt
- White Card
- Pipe Cleaners
- Goggly Eyes
- Glue Stick
- Masking tape
How to make a toilet roll bumblebee
- Get your little one to paint the toilet roll yellow and set aside to dry
- Cut 2 strips of black felt long enough to fit around your toilet roll
- Fold your card in half and cut out a pair of wings (hint; bumblebees have 2 pairs of wings so make them a double wing with a larger and smaller one)
- Once your toilet roll is dry, glue on your stripes and your wings
- Cut 2 equal lengths of pipe cleaner and using masking tape attach them to the inside of the toilet roll for your bumblebee antenna
- Add a pair of goggly eyes and draw on a little smile
- And there you have your cute little toilet roll bumblebee!
