How To Create A Warm And Rustic Living Room Space

October 10, 2022 Chantele Leave a comment

The rustic theme has slowly crept back into interior design trends, and numerous households are looking to redecorate it. There is much to be said about the beauty of rustic themes, from natural materials to layers of varying textures and the ever-present use of warm and welcoming colours. Implementing the rustic theme into your home, especially your living room, requires a lot of inspiration. Therefore, this post reveals what you need to know about the best way to create a rustic living room.

Utilise furniture effectively

You might not have the colours, but a great place to start with the rustic theme is to have a highlighting spot. The best option many interior designers suggest is to use furniture.

Furniture takes up over 80% of living room space. Therefore, it only makes sense for you to utilise it effectively to create your desired home theme. One of the easiest ways to incorporate a rustic theme into your home is through handcrafted painted furniture. Rustic-style furniture creates a cosy and inviting aesthetic, which is closely followed by the feeling of roughness and toughness. To create a more airy ambiance, you can include the colour white as part of your furniture paneling.

Use stone if you have it

Some homes feature stone elements within the living spaces; make use of these! For instance, if you have a stone wall, it is easy to transform your space into a more rustic scene. All you need to do is have a professional place wooden beams above the wall while you install monochrome furniture beneath it. To add a little more glow to the space, you can invest in a beautiful floral chandelier and a perching standing lamp. Adding little classic elements like rugs and furniture with sharp angles allows you to easily pull off the rustic, quasi-contemporary aesthetic.

Rustic farmhouse feel

The great thing about the rustic theme is its versatility. You can have a rustic modern space or a rustic farmhouse space. For the rustic farmhouse living space, it is best to stick to a base colour palette of wood and white paint. Your furniture can have gingham upholstery, with patterns scattered effortlessly across the chairs, rugs, cushions, and throws. You can go a step further if you want, adding touches of ethnicity via the placement of African-style vases, distressed wooden stools, and a large serving platter for a more traveled look.

Rustic tropical feel

Never heard of such a thing? Well, it’s possible! Bring a hint of the tropics into your home by starting with a light wooden floor. Cover this with a cute gray rug, and invest in tall banana palms to give a calming, relaxed feeling. Follow up with your tree log coffee tables and a clear white couch. For an added Indonesian touch, invest in quality beige curtains, allowing them to shroud the windows behind. You’ll need to light up your room like every other living space. Bring in large wicker pendant lights as your final touch, and watch the space open up.
