Top Tips for a Successful Winter House Move

Top Tips for a Successful Winter House Move

November 28, 2022March 6, 2024 Chantele Leave a comment

Moving house is always stressful. First you have to go through the stress of finding the right home you wish to purchase, which may take time. Whilst you also may be needing to sell your own home. For those looking to sell their current homes swiftly, services like We Buy Houses Atlanta can offer convenience and peace of mind in the midst of a hectic relocation.

Once you’ve sold and bought your new home there is a lot to get done and organise, from the move itself to sorting out new providers and contracts. Then, once you are in, it takes time to settle, especially if you are also changing jobs or moving your children to a new school. This stress can be made worse if you are trying to move in the winter when life generally feels harder and more can go wrong. If you’ve got a move coming up, or are considering moving later on in the season, here are some great tips to help you.

Get Organised on Both Ends

Organisation is the key to any house move. Make sure you are packed, and your boxes are labelled clearly. Contact utility providers to make sure you will be connected before you move, and that you’ll get a final bill for your old home. Then, take some time to change your address anywhere that you need to so that you’ve got one less thing to worry about later on.

Visit Your New Home

When you move in the winter, there are a few extra things to worry about, especially if the house that you are moving into has been sitting empty for a while. Visit before moving day and turn the heating on. Spend some time there checking that the boiler is working, you have hot water, all of the radiators are working, and the pipes are protected from the cold. Try to visit and run the heating occasionally to keep the air warm and reduce the risk of dampness and mould.

Perhaps the easiest way to enjoy a successful and stress-free move at any time of the year is to hire a removals team to help you. Getting help from G W Twilley and Son Removals means that you’ve got experts to help you complete the move, and to look after your possessions, using all of their experience to navigate the trappings of bad weather.

Call in Favours

Moving can be tough, and you’ll want as much help as you can get. Ask friends and family if they can help on the day. Even people providing childcare, looking after pets, and bringing you a hot meal on your first night can make things easier.

Check the Weather Forecast

If you aren’t tied to a specific day, try to check the weather forecast and arrange your move on a day that’s fairly mild, or at least dry and not frosty. If you are tied to a day, and you know the weather is going to be poor, arrange to park as close to both properties as possible, give yourself plenty of time, grit any pathways and dress appropriately.

Keep Essentials on Hand

Think about things that you’ll need while you move, but also on the first night in your new home, and keep these close by, and well labelled. During the move, you might need things like a flask of coffee, snacks and sandwiches and any paperwork you might need. For the first night, things like PJs, breakfast and dinner supplies and your toothbrushes can be useful.

Moving house is always tough. With the right help and organisation, however, you can enjoy a relatively stress-free move, and get settled into your new home as soon as possible.
