Our Honest Eurocamp Les Menhirs Review: A Family Holiday in Carnac, Brittany

October 1, 2026October 3, 2026 Chantele Leave a comment

This was our first ever Eurocamp holiday, so we really weren’t sure what to expect. But here is a very honest and thorough Eurocamp Les Menhirs review for you all to see what we thought!

We’ve never been a family who can spend an entire week sitting around a pool or on the beach. We like exploring, finding somewhere new to visit and generally making the most of wherever we’ve travelled. But this time we wanted something a little different.

We wanted to explore Brittany, but we also wanted some proper downtime.

We originally booked a Comfort lodge at a different Eurocamp site, still in Carnac, but after being told that site would be closing earlier than planned, Eurocamp moved our booking to Les Menhirs (after checking with us it was ok first).

As part of the change, we were upgraded to a Premium 4-berth, 2-bedroom lodge at no extra cost (I just asked if we could get an upgrade for the inconvenience of the moved site, and the lovely lady said that wouldn’t be a problem as long as they had one available, which they did!). The Premium lodge would normally have cost around £145 more than the accommodation we’d originally booked.

So, while the £223.50 we paid was for our original Comfort accommodation, we got to experience the Premium lodge during our stay.

So when we booked a week at Eurocamp Les Menhirs in Carnac, we decided that rather than trying to cram as much as possible into seven days, we’d take things at a slower pace.

And actually? It worked brilliantly for us.

There were definitely things we loved, things we’d change and a few things that surprised us along the way, but by the end of the week we’d already started looking at other Eurocamp locations for next summer.

So here’s our honest Eurocamp Les Menhirs review, based on our week in September 2026 as a family of four.

Eurocamp Les Menhirs Premium Accommodation Review

Our Eurocamp Les Menhirs stay at a glance

  • Location: Carnac, Brittany, France
  • Length of stay: 7 nights
  • Travelling with: 2 adults and 2 children
  • Time of year: September
  • Accommodation: Premium 4-berth, 2-bedroom lodge
  • Original accommodation price: £223.50 for the week
  • Upgrade: Free upgrade to Premium accommodation following a change of campsite
  • Transport: We had our car with us and used Brittany Ferries for our crossing
  • Would we go again? Absolutely!

And that last one probably tells you quite a lot.

Why we chose Eurocamp Les Menhirs

We wanted somewhere that would give us a base for exploring Brittany without needing to be out every minute of the day.

Carnac was a great fit because there is plenty to do nearby, but we also had the beach and the campsite itself right there when we wanted an easier day.

We could spend a morning exploring somewhere new, come back for a few hours around the pool, cook or grab something to eat and then spend the evening sitting outside playing cards.

It felt like a holiday rather than a sightseeing mission.

And then there’s the price.

We originally paid £223.50 for our week’s Comfort accommodation at the La Grande Metairie site, so even before the upgrade we thought we’d found a really good-value family holiday.

When our booking was moved to Les Menhirs, Eurocamp upgraded us to a Premium 4-berth, 2-bedroom lodge at no extra cost. The upgrade would normally have been around £145 more, so we were obviously very happy with that!

Just to be clear, £223.50 wasn’t the normal price of the Premium lodge — that’s what we paid for our original booking. Our upgrade was provided because our original campsite was closing earlier than planned.

Obviously Eurocamp prices vary massively depending on dates, accommodation and availability, so I wouldn’t expect everyone to find a week for the same price. But getting our accommodation for that price made this a really affordable way for us to have a family holiday in France.

What was our Eurocamp accommodation like?

Our lodge was a really good size for the four of us. It was clean, comfortable enough for what we needed and had a surprisingly well-equipped kitchen with lots of useful things already included.

The shower was great! It was hot, powerful and actually had plenty of space, which isn’t something you always get in lodge style accommodation.

The decking outside was also brilliant. Plenty of space with a full dining table for 4, 2 longer chairs, an air drying rack and a BBQ at the front. We probably spent more time sitting outside than we did sitting inside. In the evenings we’d sit out playing cards, and it was lovely having that extra space.

The only real accommodation negatives for us were the bed and sofa.

The mattress in the main bedroom was far too soft for Jon and me, we are used to a firm mattress at homes. The kids had no problem with their beds, but neither of us slept particularly well because of the mattress.

The sofa wasn’t especially comfortable either, although to be fair, we weren’t spending much time sitting on it. We were usually out exploring, around the pool or sitting on the decking.

One thing I still find strange: there’s no oven

We knew before we went that our accommodation didn’t have an oven, so it wasn’t exactly a surprise. But I still found it slightly odd having a self-catering kitchen without one!

There was a hob, microwave, fridge/freezer and everything else we needed (no chopping board for some reason!), so it wasn’t a major problem. There was even a full size dish washer. and you have the BBQ out front too.

We just found that we ate out a little more than we might normally have done because it was easier. Had we had an oven, I think we’d probably have bought pizzas and a few more easy meals from the supermarket rather than eating out.

How close together are the Eurocamp lodges?

This was probably one of the biggest things that surprised me.

The lodges were much closer together than I expected.

Looking at the photos online, I’d imagined each accommodation having a little outdoor area where the kids could play, but in reality most had very little space outside beyond the parking area.

That said, the campsite itself was lovely and green. There were lots of trees and hedges around the accommodation, which helped make it feel much less like rows of caravans packed together.

Our lodge was right at the far end of the site, which actually worked quite well for us because it was quieter. We couldn’t hear the evening entertainment from our accommodation and it was only about five minutes to walk to the pool and play area.

The downside was that it was a longer walk to get out of the campsite and head towards the beach or town. There wasn’t pedestrian access from the far end, which would have made getting out to the local amenities much easier.

The Pool at Les Menhirs

If you have children who love swimming pools and slides, this is definitely one of the big attractions. Our kids absolutely loved it.

There are three big slides and they could happily spend hours going up and down them. The outdoor pool was perfect for them and there were plenty of loungers and shaded areas around the pool too. There was a separate baby splash pool with a little slide for younger children too.

There is also a smaller indoor pool, which was fine for the one morning when it rained. It was quite small and only had one depth, which was too deep for Effie, so I needed to get in with the kids.

The pool also felt a little colder than I expected considering it was apparently heated.

For us, though, the outdoor pool and slides were a huge success.

What are the facilities like at Eurocamp Les Menhirs?

We didn’t use everything on offer because we were spending quite a lot of time exploring Carnac and the surrounding area. It was mainly just the pool and snack bar we made use of.

There was a playground, games room with ping pong, table ice hockey and game machines, ball games court and pétanque area (French Boules)  all of which looked good, but we didn’t actually use them during our stay.

There was also a kids’ club, although we didn’t use that either. We weren’t really looking for a holiday where the children spent lots of time in organised activities. We were happy doing things together as a family.

We did, however, appreciate how easy it was for the kids to have a little bit of independence. One evening we let Elian walk back to our lodge and back to the main area to collect some Uno and jumpers.

They’re still too young for us to let them properly disappear off around a campsite on their own, but it was nice to have somewhere that felt safe enough for those little bits of independence.

There weren’t actually many children on the site during the week we visited, but Effie made a friend on the first day and they ended up spending time together around the pool and in the evenings.

The Evening Entertainment

We only went to the entertainment twice during our stay, but both times we had lots of fun. It was well done and felt like a nice addition to the holiday rather than something we had to do every night. We took part in the Karaoke night (not something you would usually hear me say…it was peer pressure,, lol!) and the music quiz. There was also a show one night, a trivia quiz and a movie aired one evening too. Pretty much everything was bilingual French/English too.

One thing I particularly liked was that it didn’t go on ridiculously late. The entertainment finished around 10.30pm, so we never had the feeling that we’d chosen a campsite where loud entertainment would keep us awake half the night.

The outdoor seating around the bar and entertainment area was also a really nice place to sit. The drinks at the bar were reasonably priced too, approx £10 for 2 large glass bottles of coke and 2 glasses of lemonade.

Eating at Eurocamp Les Menhirs

This was another area where we were pleasantly surprised. We expected the on-site food to be expensive because, well, it’s a holiday accommodation! But the snack bar was actually really good value.

For example, we paid:

£28 for two large pizzas and chips for four people.

And another evening:

£38 for three adult burger meals and one kids’ chicken nugget meal.

Considering how much family meals can cost when you’re eating out in France, we thought that was pretty reasonable.

The menu was limited, but the food was genuinely good and it was incredibly convenient.

The opening hours were particularly useful for us because the snack bar was open from around 5pm–9pm, which suited our children much better than French restaurant times.

The campsite shop was a different story!

It was quite poorly stocked and, honestly, very expensive.

The only plus seemed to be the freshly baked pastries and bread which you could order the day before, for collection the next morning. We didn’t use this service ourselves but there were lots of people walking up and back in the mornings with their brown bakery bags.

We also discovered that French supermarkets were more expensive than we expected, but the quality of the fresh produce was fantastic.

Everything felt incredibly fresh and there seemed to be much less heavily processed food than we’re used to seeing at home.

And the markets were brilliant.

Eating out in Carnac with kids

This was one thing I hadn’t really thought about before our trip.

We found eating out with children in France a little more difficult than we’d expected. A lot of restaurants seemed to serve lunch around 12–2pm and then not start serving dinner until after 7pm. That doesn’t always work brilliantly when you’ve got children who are ready for dinner at 5.30!

We also found that children’s menus weren’t always particularly child-friendly for our family. Effie is quite a fussy eater, so having lots of very grown-up menu choices wasn’t necessarily helpful.

This made the campsite restaurant even more useful for us.It meant we could have a proper meal without having to wait until 7pm or spend ages trying to find somewhere with something the kids would eat.

The location of Les Menhirs

The location was one of our favourite things about staying here.

Our lodge was around a 10-minute walk from the beach, and the beach itself was huge and beautiful. Because we visited in September, it was also incredibly quiet. There were times when it felt like we had huge stretches of beach almost to ourselves, which was lovely.

Carnac town was around a 25-minute walk from us, although it was only about five minutes by car if we didn’t fancy walking.

We also loved having so much within easy reach while still having the campsite as our base.

The only thing that slightly frustrated us was the pedestrian access from the far end of the campsite, as mentioned earlier. If we’d been closer to the entrance, getting out on foot would have been much easier.

Laundry and the little practical things

One thing I appreciated was having laundry facilities on site.

A large wash was around £4 and drying was another £4.

Most of the accommodation also had large airers on the decking, so if we’d needed to wash clothes and dry them naturally, it would have been really easy.

We didn’t actually need to use the laundry during our stay, but it’s something I’d definitely appreciate if we went for longer.

A couple of things I’d pack differently next time:

There wasn’t really a lot as I think we were fairly well prepared, and the lodge had plenty of items we needed.

A tea towel – I completely forgot to pack one and it would really have helped with wiping dishes and the counter/table

A hairdryer was included, despite me bringing my own, so that could have stayed at home and saved me some packing space

It’s these tiny things that you don’t necessarily think about when you’re used to staying in hotels or traditional self-catering accommodation.

Carnac Beach in Brittany - Family travel in France

What surprised us most about our first Eurocamp holiday?

I think the biggest surprise wasn’t actually the accommodation or the facilities.

It was how well Eurocamp suited the type of holiday we wanted.

We don’t normally do slow holidays. We like getting out, exploring and seeing as much as we can.

But we also didn’t want to spend our first trip to Brittany rushing from one attraction to another.

So most days we naturally fell into a rhythm of:

Half a day exploring Brittany + half a day at Eurocamp.

And it was honestly the perfect balance.

We could go somewhere new in the morning, come back for a few hours around the pool, have some food, play cards on the decking and then have a quiet evening.

I even managed to get plenty of reading done.

That doesn’t sound particularly exciting, but for me it was exactly what I needed from a holiday.

Is Eurocamp Les Menhirs good for families?

For our family, absolutely.

I think the biggest thing we liked was that there was enough to keep the children entertained without the whole holiday having to revolve around the campsite.

The pool and slides were a huge hit. There was entertainment if we wanted it. There were facilities we could have used more if we’d chosen to.

And then outside the campsite we had the beach, Carnac and the rest of Brittany to explore. It gave us options.

We could have had a very easy week without going very far at all, or we could use it as a base for exploring.

For us, it was the second option.

Carnac Beach in Brittany - Family travel in France

What didn’t we love about Eurocamp Les Menhirs?

I always think it’s important to include the negatives in a review because no holiday is perfect.

For us, the main downsides were:

  • The mattress was far too soft for us.
  • The sofa wasn’t particularly comfortable, or even big enough for a family of 4!
  • There was no oven in our accommodation.
  • The lodges were closer together than we expected.
  • There wasn’t much outdoor space directly around our lodge.
  • The campsite shop was expensive and limited.
  • The indoor pool was quite small and too deep for Effie.
  • Our lodge’s position at the far end of the site made walking out of the campsite slightly less convenient.

None of these things ruined our holiday.

In fact, most were fairly minor annoyances compared with everything we enjoyed.

Would we stay at Eurocamp Les Menhirs again?

Yes. Definitely.

In fact, we’ve already started looking at different Eurocamp locations for next summer.

I think that’s probably the best way I can sum up our experience.

Was everything perfect?

No.

Would I change a few things about the accommodation?

Absolutely.

Did I wish the campsite shop was better?

Very much so!

But did we have a lovely family holiday?

Yes.

And did Eurocamp give us a really affordable way to explore Brittany while still having plenty of downtime?

Absolutely.

For £223.50 for seven nights of accommodation, we felt like we’d found a bit of a bargain.

We’re definitely not saying every Eurocamp site will be the same, and I think the individual accommodation, location and time of year will make a big difference.

But after our first Eurocamp experience, we’re definitely interested in trying another.

Carnac Beach in Brittany - Family travel in France

Would we recommend Eurocamp Les Menhirs?

If you’re looking for a family holiday in Brittany, somewhere with a good pool, slides, beach access and plenty of opportunities to explore outside the campsite, Les Menhirs worked really well for us.

It was particularly good for the kind of holiday we wanted: fun for the kids, plenty to explore, but still enough downtime for the adults.

And if you’re trying to keep the cost of a family holiday down, finding a good accommodation deal can make Eurocamp a really interesting option.

Our £223.50 accommodation price certainly helped!

We’ll be sharing more from our Brittany trip, including the places we visited, things to do in Carnac with kids, what we spent and our favourite family days out.

Because if our first week in Brittany has taught us anything, it’s that there’s a lot more to this part of France than we realised.

And we’re already wondering where Eurocamp will take us next…
