Today I’d like you all to say a big hello to Laura from Dear Bear and Beany as she will be taking over the blog for today to chat to you all about her Top 5 Party Games for Toddlers and Preschoolers. I’m nowhere near needing these ideas myself yet seeing as little man is now just 2 weeks old, but Laura has some great ideas to keep children entertained at parties, so if your disbarring at how to keep a bunch of kids happy at a 1st, 2nd or 3rd birthday party check out these options!
I am starting to plan for my daughters joint birthday party, their birthdays are ten days apart and so it makes sense for me to do one party for them both. This may change as they get older, but this year they will be 4 and 2 years old, so I think I can definitely get away with it!
I love a traditional party where we hire a village hall and do lots of party games and activities. I find that at this age children can take a bit of warming up at parties and don’t want to jump straight in to doing games. So, I put a few activities out for them to do and settle into the party.
I thought I would share with you my top 5 games and activities for this age group…the theme for our party is Princess and Pirate, but you can tailor it to any theme.
- Crafting – This is a great activity you can easily set up at a table. I brought some cardboard wands and swords to decorate with lots of themed stickers. Keeping it simple and easy with no glue or scissors needed. A great company I use is Yellow Moon, they have everything I need. Plus a percentage of the sale goes to a school of my choice, which means a few pennies for Alice’s preschool.
- Hook a Duck – An old classic, but the children love it. I found this great kit from The Entertainer, along with some medals to hand out when they managed to hook a duck.
- Pin the Amulet on Princess Sofia – This can be tailored to your party theme. It has the same rules as pin the tail on the donkey, but instead they pin the Amulet on Princess Sofia. Originally I planned to make this myself, but then I found it on Amazon for £2.75, bargain! It comes with the poster, blindfold and the amulets to stick on.
- Pass the Parcel One – of my favourites and the children love it. I brought an Orchard Toys game that would suit everyone attending as the prize and then did a layer of wrapping for each child, popping in a chocolate coin so that everyone had something.
- What’s the time Mr Wolf – Another classic game that is fun for everyone. You can rotate who is Mr Wolf and it’s a good one for practicing those numbers! (rules are here for those of you who don’t know it)
