So Elian is really into books at the moment, which I love! I always hoped he would enjoy books like I do as I think it is really great for kids to get into reading at a young age. He might not actually be reading them yet, but the fact that he will chose to let me read a book to him rather than him watching tv or choosing to play is great. As he is just a toddler (20 months now) he really loves interactive books, things like lift the flap books or touchy feely books.
So for yesterdays video over on my YouTube Channel I decided to chat about all of Elian’s current favourite toddler books in the hope of inspiring other people to read more with their toddler, and to give you some ideas of great books to help kids enjoy reading. Here is the video and below you will find info on all the books I have mentioned.
- Usborne Books – Thats Not My Donkey – There are so many versions of this book out that you can find your kids favourite animal or even a character like a princess or pirate. Elian loves the little fabric sections and looking for the mouse on each page
- Never Touch A Dragon – Another touchy feely book with rhyming text, this one is super colourful and fun and the touchable bits are rubber
- Usborne Books – Peep Inside the Zoo – Elian loves animals so anything with them in is a hit, this gives you little facts about different animals in the zoo
- Julie Donaldson – Fox’s Socks – We all love a good Julia Donaldson book and I hadnt heard of this until I found it in the wildlife park. A rhyming story about a fox looking for his socks, with lift flaps
- Ladybird Books – Busy Zoo – Another lift the flap book full of animals and interesting facts. I love this as it has the words of different objects on them to help kids learn items.
- Julia Donaldson – The Gruffalo – A standard in most top book lists for toddlers I think. The Gruffalo is a favourite in our house and this noisy version is Elian’s favourite
- The Star Of The Zoo – Elian had this book from a friend for his Christening and it has been one of his go to books for the last year. A story of friendship, team work and trust.
- Pandamonium – A silly rhyming story of the naughty animals at the zoo!
- The Gigantosaurus – We have only had this a few weeks and have already read it a lot! Another rhyming story, about dinosaurs! It is the story of the boy who cried wolf, but with dinosaurs!
- Julia Donaldson – Zog – And the last Julia Donaldson, another new one is a rhyming story about a dragon and a princess who doesn’t want to be what they are expected to be by society!
