Not everyone is lucky enough to have a garden, and those that do often don’t have much space. But sometimes your garden can be too much for you, and you’re not sure what to do with it. You already have a lawn, some flowerbeds and maybe a patio or deck. But there’s plenty of space left and it just looks empty. If you’re looking for some ideas of what to do with the space you have available, you could find a number of uses for it. Create a family space or somewhere you can use to get away when you need to – or just use it for storage.
Get a Shed or Greenhouse
If you enjoy gardening or you just need somewhere to put your necessary gardening equipment, adding a shed or greenhouse to your garden is one option. They come in all sizes, so even if you only have a small amount of space, you could fit one in. Sheds are perfect for storing tools, but they can be used for other things too, including a workshop or a retreat at the end of the garden. A greenhouse can give you a protected place to grow things in a more controlled environment.
Install a Gazebo or Pergola
A patio or deck can provide a nice place to sit, but sometimes you want to feel like you’re further into your garden. By getting a gazebo or a pergola, you can surround yourself with plants and distance yourself from your house a little more. Some pergolas are ideal for growing climbing plants around too, so you can create a private place where you can hide away. Both gazebos and pergolas make intimate places for socialising too, and you can add furniture and accessories to create a comfortable place.
Extend Your Home
If you feel like your home could do with some more living space, you might want to consider extending your home. You could extend an existing room or add a new one. For one of the easiest and most popular ways to add to a home, you could also build a conservatory. You can find some inspiring ideas from conservatories with James Oliver if you’re thinking of getting one. It can become another family room, a dining room, or something completely different. Conservatories can be great sun traps, so you can have a warm place to sit even in the winter as long as it’s a sunny day.
Add a Workspace
Another practical way to make use of any extra outdoor space could be to add a workspace to your garden just like we did with our Little Green Shed Photography Studio! It doesn’t have to be an extension of your home, as it could be a cabin, a shed or a shipping container at the end of your garden. Your garden can be the perfect place to be productive, whether you want to write, paint or do some woodwork. Even though you’re only at the bottom of the garden, you can feel like you’re getting away from it all.
Don’t let your garden space go to waste. Make use of it by finding it a new purpose instead.
