For most parents, there is nothing more exciting than buying the first clothes and furniture for their baby. From cute little grows to fun comforters, without mentioning the cost of the nursery room furniture, it’s easy to see how your budget might go through the roof with your firstborn. It doesn’t matter how much you’re trying to stick to a budget. Babies need a lot of items during the first years of their lives, from clothing to baby cots and changing tables.
At this point, it is fair to say as the Millennial generation is waiting longer to have children, some parents try to hang up to some items by adding them to a memory box for Baby. From the first blanket to the very toy, these memory boxes are not only kept dutifully, but they are regularly updated with the latest items as the child grows. However, not all parents enjoy the idea of cluttering the home with stuff they don’t need anymore. So what can you do with your old baby items?
Keep them for Baby #2!
Baby clothes, and especially quality baby clothes, can be expensive. Unfortunately, they also have a very limited lifetime, as most babies outgrow their clothes within a few months. So it can be worth, for parents who want a second child to organise a storage facility where they can keep baby items that are in good condition. To give you a little hint as to which items you should keep and which you shouldn’t. Nappies tend to come with an expiration date, so even if you haven’t used all your newborn nappies, it’s safer to get rid of them within a few months. Clothes, blankets, cot, changing table, pushchair and baby seats – including car seats unless new regulations transform the design – can be safely kept. It’s recommended to change your sterilising equipment, though, especially if you haven’t used it in a while.
Donate or sell them
If you don’t have any plan for the future, or you simply prefer to buy everything new if you were to have another child, you can consider charity donations to support families who are struggling to make ends meet. You can also sell your items online, using sites such as eBay or Preloved, to reach new parents. As a rule of the thumb, successful sellers uploads multiple photos to show more than one angle. You should also sell clean items, as most buyers want safe products for their children.
Do you feel the DIY rush?
If you’re a DIY enthusiast, you could consider transforming some of your baby items into something exciting and new. Sewing enthusiasts like to turn old baby grows into toddler’s clothes, for instance. You could make cute underwear out of baby clothes. Additionally, you can also look for conversion projects. Some parents like to transform the nursery room as their child grows so that the baby cot can become a drawing desk for young children or a comfortable bench for older children. It’s a great way to upcycle your items and save money!
Whether you’re a keeper, a seller or a transformer, there is a lot of things you can do with your old baby items. And, of course, this goes without mentioning: Make the most of each item while it lasts! You’ll love the memories.
