Sensory play is such an important learning factor for kids. As the name suggests Sensory Play stimulates the senses and plays an important role in a child’s development. Sensory play allows children to explore sensations and their surroundings in a natural and fun way, helping them learn without them really knowing it. Todays post is a Dinosaur Themed Sensory Play Set up perfect for toddlers.
There are so many different sensory play and messy play set ups out there and most, like this, are super simple to set up. Zimpli Kids products make putting together lots of set ups super simple, and take away the stress of making up sensory products for parents. We were lucky enough to have been sent a few of their items to test out in some of our sensory play set ups, so this is our first set up using Gelli Baff. My Gelli Baff Dinosaur Wash game took 5 minutes to set up and kept Elian entertained for almost an hour!
Give this a quick pin so you can find it later!
What You Will Need:
- 2 tubs/sand & water table
- Gelli Baff (We used Red Lava)
- Plastic Dinosaurs (you could use animals too)
- Warm Water
- Washing up liquid
- Sponge or cloth
- Tea Towel
Instructions to Set Up Your Gelli Baff Dinosaur Themed Sensory Play
- Mix up your warm water and washing up liquid to make some soapy washing up water in one tub
- Mix up your Gelli Baff in your second tub. I only used a fraction of the packet to fill this tray as the entire pack is meant to fill a bath, so just add a little at a time until you reach your desired consistence. We like ours lumpy and not too runny so it sticks to the Dino’s and needs to be washed off.
- Add your dinosaurs (or other animals) to your Gelli Baff
- Then let your little ones explore for themselves.
Elian ended up washing them all off one at a time, then drying them with the tea towel and then pushing them all back into the Gelli Baff and starting again!! It was a good hour of entertainment.
Skills Developed During This Sensory Play Set-up
- Firstly this set up helps kids develop a very real and basic skill…washing up! This hands on messy play set up is perfect for teaching kids how to wash up and dry objects, a very basic life skill for all
- Improves fine and gross motor skills
- Language skills develop through discussion of sensory activities (naming animals and dinosaurs whilst washing, counting objects or identifying colours)
- Understanding of hot and cold sensations
- Sensory play builds nerve connections in the brain’s pathways, which lead to the child’s ability to complete more complex learning tasks
