Last summer we took a lovely little trip to Cornwall as an extended family, with the grandparents, my sister and her partner (and 3 dogs in tow!) and we discovered why it is one of the number 1 places to take a UK based vacation. We stayed in some lovely dog friendly self catering cottages but there are also lots of great family friendly hotels in Cornwall to choose from too.
This year has been very different with all the restrictions we have had placed on us, with many of us having to cancel holidays abroad or planned breaks during the summer. No doubt that has left lots of us itching to get away on a little break. I know we are desperate to get away from home for a few days, simply for a change of scenery! And there are lots of benefits to a staycation in the UK
In collaboration with Hotels.com, but all views are my own
So if you still have the urge to take a little break, why not consider a last minute secluded family friendly break in Cornwall. Obviously we still need to abide by any rules or restrictions that happen to be in place both where we reside and in the location you plan to travel too. But a covid safe break is still possible. Just make sure to check all local restrictions before booking and stay safe! Why not check out these staycation ideas too.
Plus if you busy mum then these packing tips for traveling with a toddler will make getting yourself and the kids all organised and ready to travel super simple, and as stress free as possible!
Choosing where to stay
Cornwall has some truly beautiful and unique accommodation options that are perfect for family breaks. Self catering places like cabins, pods, safari tents, cottages and apartments are a great idea for a secluded family holiday. Plus they are safer and more practical during the pandemic. You have your own space, a home away from home, practical for family time together and making meals as many restaurants or bars are still closed or restricted with regards to bookings.
I love the look if these awesome Atlantic Surf Pods located in Bude and think they are the perfect place to spend a quite family break or a romantic couple’s retreat.
Places to visit in Cornwall
When looking for attractions to visit the main thing to consider is places that allow for easy social distancing so you can continue to comply by covid rules. So we have compiled a few ideas to get you started.
Beaches in Cornwall
Cornwall is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the UK (and in some cases you might say the world!) with an incredible 250 miles of coastline. You can’t really visit Cornwall without taking a trip to at least one of its many stunning beaches.
Although the beaches were very busy in the summer months, even under covid restrictions, at this time of year they will be a lot quieter, but still a beautiful calm place to spend the day, just wrap up a bit warmer! Personally we visited Summerleaze Beach with its cute beach huts, stunning sea pool and walks around the cliffs it is perfect for all the family. But there are an abundance of other beaches, (150 to be exact!) from huge sweeping sandy beaches to smaller more secluded peddle beaches, check out the Cornwall Beaches Website for info on all of them.
Family friendly attractions in Corwall
There are lots of open air attractions that are perfect for day trips with the kids.
Please be aware that some attraction may have been forced to close due to changing restrictions so please check the attractions own website or social media before visiting. Many attractions also require pre-booking due to limited numbers allowed in the attraction.
Here are a few great family friendly attractions in Cornwall that might take your fancy
- Tamar Otter and Wildlife Park
- Hidden Valley
- The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden
- Springfields Fun Park and Pony Centre
- Eden Project
- Lost Gardens of Heligan
- Lappa Valley Steam Railway
So if your considering making a quick break for it and squeezing in a little covid safe family friendly break in Cornwall, it really is a perfect place for all the family. Just remember to stick to any local covid restrictions and keep yourself safe! But enjoy!!
