Babies and toddlers dont really understand what Christmas is at their age. But you probably still want to buy them a little gift or 2, especially if it is their first Christmas. Things that are genuinely useful for their age are a great gift at this point when they don’t actually want anything. So whether you are buying for your own little one, or buying a gift for a friend or family members baby here is a gift guide full of great gift ideas for babies and toddlers.

But so often new mums get left out from all the fun once a baby has arrived on the scene. So that doesn’t happen I’ve also added a few special gifts that would be perfect for new mums to make them feel special at this time of year. You’ll find them at the bottom of this guide!

I love a baby in a cute pair of leggings, and add a matching bib and you have a truly winning combo. I adore the bright bold patterns from Ziggle, and their recent collaboration with Cosatto is super cute. Every little one needs a pretty bib or 2, and no mama will say no to a nice new muslin! Honestly I believe muslins are the most useful baby items ever and this unicorn one is so blinking cute. These items would make a brilliant gift for a baby or toddler, and they have lots of different patterns to chose from

Does your little one love In The Night Garden? This gorgeous Iggle Piggle Blankie Bundle would be a lovely gift for your toddler or a friends baby. The cosy and super soft Iggle Piggle Plushy is attached to a beautiful blanket for soothing nap and bed time cuddles. Perfect for helping little ones sooth themselves to sleep and feel safe.

The Sili Twisty Bendable Multi-Texture Teether from Munchkin is a lovely first Christmas gift for a new baby. They dont really know what christmas is yet, and they honestly dont really need any toys, but they will still love this teething toy. The multi-textured areas are brilliant for sore gums and little hands to explore. The chunky but soft silicon is perfect for little grasping hands too. plus the fiddle rings will keep them entertained.

Helping to sooth little ones to sleep can sometimes be a challenging activity. But the gentle soothing sound from the Munchkin Portable Sound Machine is perfect for helping little ones nod off peacefully. The soft silicon machine gives off a gentle highlight glow, has 3 different sounds (heartbeat, womb and shh), multiple volumes and a timer so it will turn off once baby is (hopefully) asleep. Light weight and battery operated it is great if you are out and about, and perfect for travel.

How gorgeous is this Rainbow Nightlight from Light4Fun! It would be the perfect addition to a nursery or toddlers bedroom. The lights in the little clouds give off a warm white glow to help little ones feel safe at night, but without being bright enough to keep them awake. Plus with the 6 hour timer setting it will automatically switch off once little ones are asleep. Battery operated so no need for cables, and you can hang it on a wall or pop it on a shelf! 

Trying to think of gifts for babies can actually be really hard, but if they are under 1 (or late teethers!) then teething toys are likely to be a big hit. The Gummee Glove and the Gummee Link N Teethe were both big hits in this house. Teething babies enjoy nothing more than chewing on their own hands, so just pop on the Gummee Glove and they have a multi textural teething toy to enjoy. The Gummee Links are a great sensory toy that double as a teether, perfect for when your on the go or playing at home. Pop them on your pram so babies have something to reach and grab when out and about, then unlink them when they need something to chew on.

We are already big fans of Magicubes in this house (or any magnetic building toys to be honest). Effie already has the small set of this but Ive been wanting to get her more to add on to help her have more creative freedom. If your little one loves building blocks these are a great addition to the toy collection. They are perfect if little one is just starting to stack too, as the magnets allows them to ‘stick together’ when little one might not be steady enough to stack them on their own yet. This is the 16 piece set up you can find a number of other sets depending on how big you want to go and how much budget you have to spend.

All kids love bubbles! It’s like a universal law I think. So every household needs a bubble machine. This octopus one from Lukat is cute, not too big, but still pumps out the bubbles at a rapid rate to keep little ones happy. This is sure to be a hit with kids of all ages. They are especially great for bath time or outdoors in the summer to ass some extra fun to the garden or when using a paddling pool.

If your little one has started weaning, or just starting to get to grips with cutlery then I would highly recommend getting them a set of doddl cutlery! Elian used these from around 12 months old and they allowed him to properly get to grips with the cutting motion for a knife and controlling cutlery a bit better (I reviewed them here). They have a unique shape and chunky handles which are easier for little hands to deal with. They would make a great little gift of stocking filler for any little ones or any parents with little ones as they really are super useful.

Silicon weaning and feeding sets are very popular now, and you can pick them up in so many designs and colours. I am loving this teddy bowl and spoon set with a matching catch all bib in Rose colour from Tiny Roo. Silicon weaning sets are so practical as they are easy to clean, dishwasher and microwavable safe, and the bibs are completely waterproof meaning no soggy clothing. The suction bowl is great as it makes it that much harder for little ones to pick up and throw food on the floor, haha!

Bath time is always fun with little ones. Some of them love the water from the get go, while others (like Effie) taking a little longer to warm up to it. A great way to make bath time more enjoyable is to include some great bath toys. This little water pouring boat toy bath set would be a great addition to bath time fun. Just use the suction cups to attach to your tiles above the bath and enjoy pouring water into it and watching it sprinkle out of the bottom of the boat and make the propeller spin. Plus press the ducks mouth to make bubbles appear. Lost of fun to be had.

I think tiny baby shoes are possibly the cutest thing in the world! We all love a lil baby foot, so its natural to love lil baby shoes too. Dotty Fish Soft Leather Shoes are the perfect first shoes when babies start walking. Bare foot is the best, but not always practical, so these super soft and flexible shoes are the next best thing. They come with either grippy rubber of non slip suede soles so are perfect when baby hasn’t quite got their balance all the time. And they come in a huge range of colours and designs

Personalised books can be a great present for babies and toddlers at any time of year. Wonderbly do a beautiful range of different personalised books but my favourite is the Lost My Name books. I was sent one for Elian when he was a baby and now I have the new rainbow themed one for Effie too. You chose your character to look like your little one, then a different animal of mythical being for each letter of their name. Each animal character has its own little story and beautiful illustrations that come together to build all the letters of your babies name. This is really special to me as my kids names don’t come up in many places so it is lovely for them to have these story books featuring them.

Gift Ideas for New Mums

Jewellery is a sure fire way to make a mum feel special, especially if it is something personal to her. This Loveu Necklace from Anburis is just beautiful. What is particularly cool is that it is 3D printed so has the words ‘Love You’ on one side and ‘Forever’ on the other. Im wearing the gold 18ct gold plated here, but it comes in silver and rose gold too. And if you wanted to take the personal aspect a bit further you can actually have a pendant made with 2 names interlocked instead of the ‘Love You Forever’ words. For new mums, a mug with a photo of their new little ones would be a very thoughtful and gratefully received gift.
