As small business owners ourselves, Jon and I always like to try and support other small businesses. So today I am handing the blog over to an amazingly talented and creative friend of ours, Hannah Mathias.
Hanmade Willow Studio, based in the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan, along the River Ely, focuses on creating contemporary willow designs that fit seamlessly into modern homes and outdoor spaces, all while using sustainable, natural materials.
A Journey of Craft and Healing
A few years ago, I found myself struggling through a difficult time. Searching for something that could bring me comfort, I discovered the art of willow weaving. It started as a simple therapeutic practice—something I could lose myself in, working with my hands and connecting with nature. Before long, it became much more than a hobby; it evolved into a passion and a way to find peace and clarity.
Over time, I felt a deep sense of fulfilment as I watched my creations come to life, and I realised I wanted to share this joy with others. That’s how Hanmade Willow Studio came to be—a place where I could blend my love of crafting with my desire to create beautiful, meaningful art for people’s homes.
The Beauty and Sustainability of Willow
Willow is an incredible natural material, not just for its beauty but also for its sustainability. It grows abundantly in the UK, making it an eco-friendly resource that I love working with. Each willow piece is unique, carrying its own natural charm, texture, and character. At Hanmade Willow Studio, I combine traditional weaving techniques with a modern aesthetic, offering designs that are both stylish and rooted in nature.
My goal is to show that sustainable, handcrafted art can be contemporary and chic. From wall hangings and baskets to stunning garden sculptures, every piece I create is made with love and care, designed to bring a sense of nature and tranquillity into your space.
Transforming Spaces with Nature
I believe that our homes should be sanctuaries—places where we feel connected, calm, and inspired. Bringing natural elements into our living spaces, like the warmth and texture of willow, can create a peaceful atmosphere and a sense of harmony. Whether you’re looking for a statement piece for your living room, a functional item with character, or a custom outdoor sculpture, my aim is to craft designs that resonate with you on a personal level.
Looking Ahead with Hanmade Willow Studio
