Jon and I have been making money online for years now, whether through surveys, writing sites, micro jobs, Cashback sites or this blog, we have always been people to do a little extra on the site to bring in a little extra cash. When I was in uni and just after I left uni it was pretty much my sole income for a number of months whilst I looked for a job, and I made a pretty decent income some month if the right work was available.
A few weeks back on my new YouTube Channel, Life Sorted, I asked if people would like me to make a video talking about the different ways I have made money online in the past and I received a resounding yes! So here is that video, all about side hustles to make money online and there is lots of info on the different things I mention below.
- Blogging – I’m not going to go into a huge amount of detail on this because there are millions of blogs telling you how to start a blog and what are the most profitable blog niches but the important info on this for me is the ways to make money through blogging. 2 major ways: First is via sponsored content, so companies will often approach you for this or you can contact PR companies or SEO companies and ask to be added to their mailing list. Second is via affiliate sales, meaning when people purchase a product through your affiliate link you make a commission (even if its not the original product you were promoting), there are lots of different affiliate companies you can sign up with, but for me the most important ones are Affiliate Window, SkimLinks and Amazon . You can also use Pinterest to promote and market your blog to boost traffic and sales
- YouTube – Again I’m not going to try and explain how to make a YouTube channel but to make money through YouTube you are either looking at Google Adsense Revenue or sponsored content in the same way as blogging (plus you can add affiliate links in your description box in some cases)
- Hubpages – This is a giant website where you can upload articles, tutorials or general information to your one writing profile. This is the only writing site I am now a part of other than my blog. They pay in a similar way to Google Adsense in that you earn depending on people reading and clicking links on your articles. Good thing is you can write about any topics you like, my only hint would be to try and write seasonal or every green pieces that continue to earn passive income for you further down the line. Check it out here.
- Matched Betting – This one is very new to me so I am still learning about this but in the 10 day trial I did I managed to earn £450 so it is definitely one I would say is worth a look, and the Profit Accumulator site that I use spells it all out so it is super easy to follow. In basic terms you make bets on 2 sites to cancel each other out and make sure you don’t lose any money, so you can then access and retrieve around 70% of the free money or bonus money betting sites offer. It is risk free in most cases and tax free which is the big draw for most people. Sign up here, Profit Accumulator (You can use code 284762 if you would like to give mea little credit)
- Micro Job Sites – These are sites where you can offer or complete small jobs for people, its like a freelance marketplace online. Fiverr is the main one around today (although I was on 6 at one point) and don’t let the name deceive you you do earn more than a fiver now, although this was the original premise behind the site.
- Slice The Pie – This is a site which provides you with music, pictures or products and asks you to write mini reviews about them in exchange for a few cents a time. Your not going to make £100’s on here but it is usually easy to make cash out in a few days (or even a day if you get bonus reviews) and its straight to your PayPal so super simple. Sign up here if your interested.
- Apps – These are survey apps so pretty self explanatory really. There are 3 I use at the moment as they pay the best and are the easiest Vox Pop Me, Quick Thoughts and One Pulse (although this isn’t great the moment for paid ones, but its limited to 3 questions each time so very easy when paid ones do come through)
- Survey Sites – Again this is pretty self explanatory, but these are online websites that send you surveys across a range of topics and subjects. They pay better than a lot of other sites offering to earn money through surveys but are sometimes a little more in depth or actually quite interesting as some are scientific studies rather than surveys. So these are the 2 sites I now use – Prolific Academy, Populus Live
- MTurk – This is a micro job site run by Amazon. You can check it out here. In all honestly it can be a little hit and miss on opportunities but I check in every now and then to see if there are easy earnings to be had. They pay in Amazon credit so not worth it if you don’t shop on Amazon, plus it is US based. It is much better if you are in the US as there is lots more to work with, but the UK can still do OK on there and as I have Prime I have been finding there are more items available for shipping to the UK for free, so I am saving my credits towards one of the wooden toys we can’t get or is way more expensive in the UK.
- Product Reviews – Now these aren’t always paid and again there are lots of sites offering them but the one I check most often now is Tomoson as you can also receive payment not just product from them and I find there are often a few great items available for review. Sometimes you need a Blog or YouTube channel but often just social media or the willingness to write an Amazon review
