Interiors // Are You Maximising The Space In Your Home?

If you have a small home, you may feel frustrated by the lack of space. You may feel like you do not have enough room for all of your belongings, and you may feel cramped whenever you spend time in certain parts of your home. Perhaps you have a big home, but it is still driving you crazy? If so, you are probably not maximising the space that is available to you. Start maximising your property’s space by using the tips provided below…

Utilise dead and awkward spaces – One of the main ways in which people do not maximise all of the space that is available to them in their home is through ignoring any awkward spaces. Most homes have areas that are essentially dead and wasted. However, there are plenty of different ways you can make the most of this space – it is all about being creative. The gap under the stairs is a prime example of a wasted awkward space!

Make the most of mirrors and reflective surfaces – Playing around with light is one of the best ways to open up a room and make it appear bigger than it is. Needless to say, you could start knocking down walls and installing bigger windows. However, this is not an option for everyone, and so an easier and more cost-efficient way to get started is by investing in statement mirrors and reflective furniture. Natural light will reflect off such surfaces and back into the room in question, opening it up and making it feel a lot bigger and more comfortable.

Use layout tricks – Another way to maximise the space that is available to you is to make sure that the layout in every room is optimised. This is something that Factory Direct Flooring explains well. They show you how to layout your furniture in the living room depending on the shape and size of the room. For example, if you have a square living room, which feels small and boxy, you should use a mixture of various shaped and scaled seating to provide visual interest and depth in the space.

Choose accessories with care – Last but not least, the accessories you choose can have a massive impact on the look and feel of the room. You can easily make a room look cluttered and awkward if you crowd the space with lots of smaller pieces. Instead, look for large-scale, statement accessories.

As you can see, there are a number of different ways that you can maximise the space in your home. If you follow the suggestions that have been presented above, you can make your house feel a lot bigger than it is. This will make your house more enjoyable to be in and you feel like you can relax in your property, rather than being frustrated because it feels cramped.
