I honestly don’t think there is anything happier than a baby playing in a ball pit! And not just a baby tbh, both my kids love a ball pit. Oh the fun they can both have, and the games they have come up with since we received this ball pit from Nuby.
We were lucky enough to have been gifted the Nuby Foam Velvet Ball Pit in Grey and Pink and the kids have been loving it since the moment it arrived!

All about our Modern Nuby Ball Pit
The Ball pit arrived folded up in a box and was easy to unfold and put together. The surrounding section was already in place, so I just had to pop the round base into the zipped up section underneath the base and pour in the balls. It did take a little while for the pit to settle into the round shape but after a few days and lots of play it is now the intended circle it should be.
The Nuby ball bit is big and comfortable in size, with a 90cm diameter and 30cm high sides making them great for babies learning to sit upright, and safe for when they are still a bit wobbly. The super soft velvet fabric is lovely for them to lean into, grasp hold of and rest against if they need to.
The pit comes with 200 balls which is more than enough to fill the pit comfortable giving babies enough balls to support them when seated but also not too many that they dont all fit once little ones are in the fit. My 2 both sit in the ball pit and cover their laps with balls quite happily. The balls are of a standard ball pit size and are light but still sturdy, meaning they are easy to throw about but not hurt if your hit with them.
Why Ball Pits are great for Toddlers
You’d think ball pits were simply for fun, and to keep the little people entertained for a little while, but you’d be surprised at all the hidden benefits they can have for babies and toddler. It’s amazing the developmental benefits most toys can have for kids without us even knowing it. And as I’ve said before the best way for kids to grow and learn if not to realise they are learning but simply be having lots of fun. Here are a few of the benefits
- Playing in a ball pit can help develop and strengthen muscles
- Throwing and rolling the balls will help develop both gross and fine motor skills
- The shape and feel of holding balls is a great sensory experience
- The balls and high sides are great for encouraging babies to sit up safely
- Ball pits can help develop social skills and interactions
- Grasping the balls helps hand eye co-ordination
- Older children can also work on colour recognition and counting skills
What we think of our Nuby Velvet and Foam Ball Pit
Honestly I can’t praise this ball pit enough. We have had a pop-up fabric one in the past which I never felt was that safe should the baby fall over in it, and it couldn’t be washed so got marked up fairly easily. This Nuby Ball Pit has a thick foam surround and a foam base so no matter how Effie falls into it (or Elian dive bombs it off the sofa!) I know they are safe and landing on a soft base. Believe me both of them throw themselves into it on a regular basis and thanks to that thick foam base neither of them has ever hurt themselves
The cover is completely removable with the 2 foam sections being removable, so it can be put in the washing machine to keep it clean. With kids things can get marks on easily due to sticky fingers and such so it being easy to wash is a big plus point for me. It means I will be able to keep it looking nice and clean for as long as we have it.
I love the pale grey colour and the tri-coloured balls. It looks modern and not as garish as some of the brighter coloured ones. If we had a separate playroom I would be all for the rainbow colours, but as the kids toys share our living room I didn’t really want a large toy that was too colourful. Luckily this one fits in lovely with the rest of our room. And the soft velvet fabric is just beautiful.
