We Love Play Dough
We are big big fans of play dough in this house. Elian will happily spend a good hour or so, rolling, cutting, stamping and generally being creative with a pile of dough and some neat little tools. We have all manner of colours and tools here so he really is able to be creative and use his imagination to build anything he wants…even if most the time he just seems to want to mix the colours and stamp out random shapes! haha! I don’t even mind the clean up afterwards as I know how much fun he has playing with it.
John Adams Play Stuff Dough Sets
We were super grateful to receive 3 different John Adams Play Stuff sets to review last week, and Elian’s face just lit up the moment he saw what was in the parcel. The sets we received were – The Scrummy Shop, Pooch Parlour and Picnic Patch, all of which looked super fun and Elian couldn’t wait to get them open and start playing.
Each set comes in its own little cardboard carry case that very cleverly folds out to create a non stick play base for your little ones to make their creations on and allow them to enjoy some imaginative play using the pictures on the box. The carry cases make them easy to store and keeps all the tools and dough together safely packed inside the boxes. The box makes tidying up afterwards easier too!Play Stuff Scrummy Shop – This set creates a fun shop scene for your kids to make some tasty looking treats and even features a pretend till and weighing scales. The set includes 3 different coloured doughs and 8 different tools to help your little ones make their own money, fruit, gingerbread men and doughnuts.
Play Stuff Pooch Parlour – If you have a little animal lover in the family then the Pooch Parlour would be perfect for them. The set includes 3 different coloured play doughs and 6 different tools so your little one can make some doggie treats, ribbons and bows to adore their puppies.
Play Stuff Picnic Patch – Your little ones can set up a fun and inviting little picnic in amongst the flowers and bugs in this garden scene. This set comes with 5 different coloured play doughs and 8 different tools for your little ones to create fruit, flowers and bugs for their garden set up
The Benefits of Playing with Play Dough
So we all know play dough is lots of fun for little ones, but aside from just being fun to play with it can also provide a tonne of learning opportunities and is great for their development. Here are a few of the benefits of playing with play dough
- Improving Fine Motor Skills – Squishing, rolling, moulding, cutting, stamping and pulling apart play dough is a great way to help build and strengthen their little hands. All that play is actually great for getting them ready to hold pencils, pens and have the strength to use scissors. It is also helping them learn to control objects in their hands which they will need when they start to develop their writing skills
- Hand-eye Coordination – Using cutters and stamps is a great way to develop their hand-eye coordination by encouraging them to line things up and fit the cutters to the rolled out dough they have
- Encouraging Creativity – Any sort of hands on craft item is great for creativity by allowing kids the freedom to sculpt items and make lots of items from their imagination. The stamps and tools in these sets just help aid their creativity by giving them a starting point to work from and allow younger children to join in on the play by making it easier to make items.
- Building Imagination – These sets are brilliant for allowing kids to use their imagination. By giving them little scenes as inspiration for their play it helps them build on the imaginative play ideas and they can be creative with how they play with each set up. This works whether they are playing alone or with others.
- Improving Concentration – We all know little ones have the attention span of a snail! So anything that holds their attention for more than 5 minutes is great to help them improve their concentration and learn how to focus on a task…especially if it doesn’t involve a screen! And it is always great for us parents too!
