Elian has had a few great pieces of Playmobil in the past, he was totally obsessed with his yellow minibus for a number of months when he was going through a bus phase, age 3. He loves imaginative play and I think it is super important for kids to learn role play and how to play independently, Playmobil toys are really great for this.
As you can see he was pretty blinking pleased to be sent the Playmobil Recycling Truck recently. He hasn’t had a bin lorry toy before so it was something a little different for him to play with. It opened the door on a whole new range of role play ideas … And strangely he is very into litter/recycling after studying it in school last term, so I think this came at a really great time (although he has called it a garbage truck a few time…thanks American Paw Patrol!)
LET US KNOW IN THE COMMENTS WHAT YOUR LITTLE ONES FAVOURITE PLAYMOBIL ITEM IS
We were sent this toy for review but all thought and opinions are my own
The Playmobil City Recycling Truck
Let’s Imagine – There is a lot to do at the rubbish collection. All the rubbish bins and containers in the neighbourhood have to be emptied. The driver of the large Recycling Truck approaches the bins carefully, his colleague clamps the full rubbish bin into the holder and opens the lid. Now the lever is operated and it goes up. Once it gets to the top the container is then flipped upside down and the recyclable material is emptied into the vehicle’s hopper, then the container is placed back on the street. At the end of the day it goes to the recycling centre.
The playset includes two Playmobil figures, a city recycling truck with flashing lights and removable roof, two rubbish cans, 1 large recycling bin, a fire extinguisher, walkie talkies and some rubbish for your bin . To empty the truck, the rear part is detached and the vehicle attachment is folded up.
What we thought of the Playmobil City Recycling Truck
Elian is a big fan of vehicles in general, and surprisingly didn’t already have a recycling truck or bin lorry toy so this has been a perfect addition to his collection. He spent ages loading the bins up with other little toys, mainly his Super Things as they fitted nicely, then using the lever to lift the bins and tip them into the back of the truck. Driving the truck around to collect different piles of ‘rubbish’ he had left dotted around the room, then emptying the whole lorry on the rug. He loves toys that have moving parts so he can get fully involved in his imaginative scenarios.
Being a child also means he loves the fact it makes noises and has flashing light, of course! (Why is it all children like noisy toys haha) But honestly that really does make the truck seem more realistic…and fun for kids to play with.
I think this is likely to be a toy that he can continue to play with even as he gets older, simply with more elaborative and imaginative role play set ups.
He’s now seen a few more of the new Playmobil City Life vehicles that he has now added to his birthday wish list.
What are the educational benefits of Playmobil Toys?
I am always a fan of toys that allow for open ended imaginative play and the chance for little ones to learn whilst playing. Luckily lots of kids toys have the ability to allow learning in some form or another. And toys that require imagination to play are especially great as they have lots and lots of learning possibilities and can last over a wide age range.
So here are a few of the great reasons you should consider getting your little ones some Playmobil City Life products. We have found they are brilliant at helping to promote:
- role play
- social and environmental awareness
- creativity
- imaginative play
- fine motor skills and coordination
- development of storylines and storytelling
- character development (in stories)
- knowledge of and learning about roles of people within our community (firefighter, police, bin men)
- problem-solving skills
- language development, specifically conversational language
- concentration
- independent and engaged play
- sharing and cooperation – when being used by more than one child
