Ordinary Moments #2 – Pokemon Hunting!

Pokemon Go to making walking more fun for kids

Making our Daily Walk More Fun for Elian

So it seems our daily walks have now turned into daily Pokemon hunts! Somehow Elian discovered Pokemon a few weeks back and became obsessed very quickly. We had never watched it in our house before, so not sure where it came from, but we have allowed him to watch the odd episode since. He is constantly building Pokeballs from his magnetic tiles (granted they are cubes! But who am I to argue with his imagination!) and asking us which Pokemon is our favourite. For Easter he was bought a Pikachu and Charizard toy and they are firm favourites for different imaginative set ups with his magnetic tiles too.

Pokemon Go

So last week I had the bright idea to help make our daily walks a little more fun, usually we would walk to the park or shop so there was an end goal for Elian, but obviously that isn’t allowed at the moment, so we both downloaded Pokemon Go onto our phones. It’s not something Jon or myself have ever played before, so we are learning how the game works as we go, but we are all having lots of fun. It’s funny for Jon and myself seeing all the first series Pokemon we remember coming out when we were younger, but now there are a tonne more new Pokemon which we have never heard of! And I’m not ashamed to admit we are properly getting into the game and enjoying learning about how it works and building our little collections. It’s been a fun focus that we can all enjoy and it has helped get our minds off everything that has been going on.

And it really has worked for encouraging Elian to want to go for daily walks, not that he doesn’t like going out, but usually he will get bored after a little while if it is just a walk and not heading to the park or something. He is now wanting to walk further and stay out longer, plus trying to get us to take new paths (luckily we are surrounded by lots of country paths and woodland walks), just so we can make it to another Gym or Pokespot, or find more Pokemon for him to try and catch. I honestly never thought I would be someone going out intentionally to catch Pokemon, but during this lockdown it has been a great distraction  and injected some fun into our days.

What Elian is wearing

Pretty simple…he is in head to toe The Monochrome Mum! haha! Ok his shoes are Tesco. We are brand reps for this lovely little mum run company and we adore her clothing. He is wearing the Binoculars Leggings and matching printed top, and a bunny ear Night Lights Jacket. All of which I have bought myself with a small discount, use code TWOHEARTS10 on her site to receive a discount.

Ordinary Moments

Linking up again today with Donna from What the Red Head Said and her Ordinary Moments linkie. I also joined in last week with our Easter Dino Egg Hunt post. I’m liking the idea of documenting the normal things we are doing whilst on this lockdown. Almost so we can look back and see all the fun and happy times we actually did have, when at the time it may have seemed super hard and often boring. Im hoping it is something I can continue to document going forward, maybe not every week but at least when I have something I want to remember or highlight.

We did a lot of this last year and this year I did it with the Harry Potter version. It is great to get kids outdoors and walking about. We had a lot of fun with this. Enjoy xx #Ordinarymoments

I’ve heard of this but not downloaded it and my son is a huge Pokemon fan so I will try this for our walks too! #ordinarymoments
