Its October. It’s almost halloween, which means one thing for parents…it is totally mandatory to visit a pumpkin patch (or at least a large field where a farmer has deposited a shit tonne of bought pumpkins, haha!) for some pumpkin picking and of course cute photos of kids surrounded by these big orange veggies, sitting in wheelbarrows or under autumnal arches.
And not one to shy away from a photo opp for any reason of course, we dressed the kids in their matching outfits (planned months ahead btw! Rust Leopard print from Talibri Kids and jumpers from Amazon) and we set off to Gower Fresh Christmas Tree Farm (where they do seasonal events of all sorts…not just Christmas trees like the name suggests!) My FB and insta had already been flooded by cute autumn photos from people all over the globe and honestly I couldn’t wait to get involved. And it’s Effie’s first trip to a pumpkin patch as we didn’t make it last year due to all the covid regulations.
I knew what to expect from Gower Fresh Christmas Tree farm having already seen many friends and families photos from their trips before we were able to visit on Monday, I just had my fingers crossed that it would be dry for our trip.
As I booked the first slot in the morning we were the second car pulling in so it was lovely and quiet when we arrived, no queuing to take photos under the arches and lots of space in the pumpkin fields themselves. Luckily it didn’t rain whilst we were there, although it had rained the day before so the paths were pretty blinking muddy…which I had prepared for, wellies and DM boots for the win!
I honestly love having these little family traditions to look forward to every year, even if they are the same traditions of every other family local to us! I love having photos that mark the passing of time each year and seeing how the kids grow and change as the years go on. This is actually only Elian’s second time at a pumpkin patch, but I know it will be somewhere we aim to go every year from now on. Maybe not always the same one, as we are fortunate to have a number within driving distance of our home. But I defiantly want pumpkin photos every autumn.
We spent a lovely hour and a half wandering the fields pulling around our little orange sled looking for the perfect round pumpkin (Elian is a perfectionist!) and taking photos. It was muddy but lots of fun! We ended up with 2 lovely sized pumpkins (Cost us £9 mind, on top of the £4.59 ‘car park’ ticket!) which we plan to carve on the weekend, which Elian is very excited about.
Gower Fresh Christmas Tree Farm are known locally for their beautiful floral and seasonal arches, which you will have seen above, which make for a lovely photo opportunity. They also had their giant chair and the big pumpkin pyramid set up, which make for great backdrops.
