Hi it’s Jon here! Chantele has handed over the blog…just for today, so I can tell you all about the Regatta Britedale Waterproof Jacket I have been sent to review.
I’ve been looking for a new rain coat for a while, I’m just about hanging on to my old trusty Berghaus that I bought around 5 years ago and have worn pretty much every day that isn’t summer. So when Regatta offered to send me a rain coat I literally did a little fist pump and started checking out their range of mens waterproof jackets. They have a tonne of great jackets on offer for all different price points, and with a range of different features depending on when you plan to use your jacket.
I was gifted this jacket for review but all opinions are my own
Choosing the right mens Regatta Waterproof Jacket
After much toing and froing, reading lots of product descriptions and working out which style jacket I would most likely wear, I finally settled on this the Regatta Britedale Waterproof Jacket. I’m simple at heart and wanted an all black rain coat that had a good hood, a few pockets, and the ability to keep me dry. They do a range of other jackets and colours, but being that I wear it a lot when I’m working a wedding in the winter, I didn’t want anything that would draw attention and something that wasn’t too heavy and bulky as I need to be able to move around easily when carrying my cameras.
What I think of the Regatta Britedale Waterproof Jacket
The jacket itself feels well made without being too heavy duty. The zips are nice and easy to pull and the quality overall feels reassuring. I feel like it’s going to last me number of years, even with the heavy wear my jackets generally get.
I’ve given it a few test drives now, and it’s safe to say it’s kept me very dry on some pretty bleak days. Water drops sheet off and don’t hang around on the surface unlike my old one, so theres no risk of soaking through. I opted for something a bit looser fitting than my usual jacket this time, so I can wear a jumper underneath without feeling like I’m restricted with the extra bulk under the jacket.
Both cuffs have a velcro straps so I can tighten them up, keep the wind out, but also keep the material away from my camera and camera straps while working. The pockets are huge, you could easily wear a pair of gloves and put them inside too without stretching the zip seams. I carry a lot of stuff on work days so big pockets are a big tick from me.
Unexpected bonus feature
One thing I’m particularly happy about, and it wasn’t noticed when ordering, is that it has a built in LED light in the hood. Yep, its flipping awesome and handier than you think. When I’m faffing with keys, checking my camera bag in the dark or nipping down the garden to the office, it’s well handy and saves me digging a torch out. It’s powered by two AAA batteries in the chest pocket, and if you need to wash the jacket or they are bothering you in the pocket space, you can safely unplug the battery pack.
My only criticism
Honestly I’ve very little to say against the jacket, overall I think it is great. But the one thing that would be welcome is the addition of arm pit vents/zips, but at the price point I’m still very happy.
