.If you follow us on Instagram or Facebook you will no doubt have heard me say before that Dude is mildly obsessed with his magnetic tiles…like they come out daily and his constructions are his pride and joy for a number of days until I have to tidy my kitchen table or his little sis destroys them, haha! So he is always on the look out for new magnetic toys to add to his collection. When Geomag offered to send us their Magicube Magnetic Blocks I knew they would be a big hit, and I wasn’t wrong
The blocks were gifted by Geomag for review purposes but all words, photos and opinions are my own
Magicube Magnetic Blocks
These lightweight plastic block are made from 100% recycled plastic making them just a little bit more eco-friendly than your average building blocks, which is a big tick in our book. They are well made, and seem pretty sturdy so I have no doubt they will last us a number of years, until the kids are no longer interested in playing with them (then we can pass them on to other kids)
We were sent the 9 piece set, but there is also a 6 piece, 13 piece and 32 piece in this particular range. Our set included 3 cubes, 3 triangles and 3 curved edge triangle pieces in red, orange, light and dark blue colours. They are great for building basic shapes and structures, but to allow them to be more versatile I really think you need a bigger set, to allow more scope in what your kids can build. We found this with our magnetic tiles also, the original small set we bought wasn’t enough to keep him occupied for long and now we have well over 350 pieces! But I honestly dont mind the investment in them as they are so well loved and used.
Elian has been loving this mini set of magnetic blocks though. We have found it really useful to take away with us on holiday and even to pop in my bag if we are going to friends houses or out for a meal.
Magnetic Blocks Great for Little Hands
The magnets in these blocks aren’t very strong, not when compared to Geomag tiles or their balls and rods, so that makes them perfect for littler hands. They are easy to pull apart again once connected, so can be independently played with by little ones.
The blocks are nice and chunky so easy to hold and stack by little hands. The age suggestion is between 1 and 5, so they are safe for toddlers and older siblings. And it may encourage them to play together too.
The bright primary colours also mean they are eye catching for little ones. They will help to hold their attention for longer.
I think it is likely that Effie will enjoy these more over the coming months. They are perfect for her to play with on her own. And I think they are more versatile than the wooden blocks we also have
Benefits of play with Magnetic Blocks
Although toys are meant to be fun, it is also great when they are educational. Or when they help with babies and toddlers development. Blocks of any kind are a really great basic toy to
- Hand eye coordination
