You may have seen a few posts on the blog last year about Simply Cook recipe boxes so you will know I am already a big fan of these guys (Vietnamese Pork Review, Cajun Chicken Review). The concept is pretty simple, you order a box of 4 recipes, they post out the recipes and the ‘flavour pots’ directly to you, you follow the (really) simple recipes (usually 20 minutes tops) and enjoy a seriously yummy home cooked restaurant quality meal. Yum!!
Am I making you hungry yet? If so why not use my reader offer to get your first box for just £1! Total bargain by the way!! Just use code ‘twohearts’ when ordering, click here!! They have a light (diet friendly) box and a gluten free version too! Plus you can often change out meat for veggie options too!
I love that I get to test out recipes I may not have made for myself at home, and its always something a bit different for me and Jon to eat. Plus they real are super simple to follow but make great quality food, and often the ingredients you need to buy to make them aren’t stupidly priced because you have all the herbs, spices, pastes and oils already included in the box.
So here was the first recipe I made out of our new box! A seriously yummy Chicken Tagine with Couscous. After speaking to Anisa one of the chefs directly, she told me only to use half of the spice pots in certain recipes (not this recipe though), due to my aversion to spicy food (due to a black pepper allergy I have) and I must say she was totally spot on! This dish was so flavourful and mega tasty, plus even though the recipe was only for 2 there was still enough of this left over for another portion (tagging only though). I made a slight tweak to the recipe by leaving out the apricots and adding a red pepper instead (purely for personal preferences) but that is what is great about these recipes it is easy to adjust them to suit your own tastes if you want to.
Both me and Jon loved this chicken tagine one and would happily order this pot again to make. Look out for our second review soon as we have also just cooked the Murgh Kari curry!
So again if you want to try out your own box for just £1 instead of £8.99 use the code ‘twohearts’ when ordering!
I’ve been using Simply Cook for 3 or 4 years now. Basic, cheap ingredients easily available from small supermarkets and excellent quick recipes. Perfect for the time poor who don’t like shopping and way more practical and economic than the delivery based offerings.
