We are all time-poor these days. There are so many pulls on our time – jobs, partners, children, aging parents… and that’s before we even start on the day-to-day admin, organising and time management which is necessary to keep on top of our busy schedules. Sometimes it can feel like life is a Groundhog Day of vacuuming the living room and deciding what to make for dinner!
There are some jobs that never seem to get ticked off the to-do list because they’re unexciting or unappealing (or both). Here’s why you need to tackle them head on.
Good for Your Pocket – Cancelling Unused Direct Debits
We all have them – the direct debits for things we no longer use. That optimistic gym membership that you used twice before deciding it wasn’t for you? It needs to go. The Disney+ subscription that your kids swore they’d use daily, when they’re actually still spending their TV time watching their Frozen DVD? Cancel it.
Check your bank account to see what’s going out each month and then cancel anything you no longer use. You’ll be surprised at how much additional money you’ve been spending.
Good for Your Home – Clearing Out Your Kitchen Drawer
No, not the cutlery drawer (although by all means give that a sort through at the same time, especially if it has reached the stage where crumbs have somehow managed to sneak their way in).
The drawer. You know, that one you shove everything into to deal with later. You’ll feel so much better when you have thrown the flyers for takeaways you’ll never use in the recycling and given up hope of ever finding out which appliance that pesky lead belongs to.
Good for Saving – Shopping Around for Cheaper Insurance Quotes
It is easy to stay with the same insurance provider. The renewal letter comes through each year, and you don’t need to do a thing so long as the direct debit keeps going out. Shopping around to see if you can get a better deal can feel like a laborious process, but with potentially big savings to be had, especially with the cost-of-living crisis, can you afford not to? Price up your home insurance and get home insurance quotes, compare the market for the best deals on pet insurance, reread your life insurance policies. If it saves you money, it’ll be worth it.
Good for the Soul – Calling the Old Friend You Haven’t Seen Lately
There’s nothing quite like the friends who know you inside out, the ones you don’t need to see every day but when you do catch up it is like you’ve never been apart. Take time out of your day to reconnect with the people who make you happy – whether it’s an hour-long chinwag or a five minute catch up, it will do you the world of good.
Take control of your life by prioritising these tasks this week – you will feel better for it. Which are you going to tackle first?
