A few months ago Jon and I were honoured to find out we had been nominated for a Mariposa Award, which is run by the Saying Goodbye Charity. Our nomination was in the Community Award category for the help and support we have given other people in our local loss community, and for the fundraising we have done as part of our Stars For Ebben fund. It came as a huge surprise to be nominated in such a prestigious national awards, and we would like to thank every one that took the time to nominated.
One of the main things that helped me in those first few months after losing Ebben was talking to other mothers who had gone through baby loss, and throwing myself head first into fundraising for the hospital. And it’s something that I have continued to do over the past 3 and a half years. Helping and supporting others is something I feel like I need to do, it provides me some comfort to know I am able to help just a tiny bit with others going through the grief of baby loss. Neither Jon or myself expect any thanks or recognition for what we do, so it is a massive honour to have had this nomination.
What I wore to the Mariposa Awards
My outfit (and Jons shoes) was very kindly sponsored by Very (except my hairband):
- Dress – Yours
- Shoes – Long Tall Sally
- Bag – Mango
- Jacket – V by Very Curve
- Earrings – Lipsy
- Bracelet – Mood
- Hairband – Custom made by Festival Hats
- Jon’s Shoes – Barbour
My Stars for Ebben Hairband
My hairband is so bloody lush it deserves a little limelight of its own. I had my hairband custom made for our Stars for Ebben ball (which was 2 weeks before the awards) by the lovely Vicky at Festival Hats, after I met her at a local wedding fair we were both exhibiting at. I set her the challenge of making a black and white hair band, with some bling but it had to feature stars! Not something she had worked with before but she said she was up for the challenge. And she produced my epic band, which got lots of comments at the Ball. So a massive Thank you to Vicky for this very special accessory, which I will treasure for a long time.
Attending the Mariposa Awards Ball 2023
The Awards themselves took place in the Landmark hotel in London, it was a black tie event hosted by Kym Marsh. We were lucky enough to attend the awards with our Bereavement Midwife Christie-Ann and her husband Andrew, as she was also nominated in the Bereavement Midwife of the year category.
It was a really lovely evening and quite emotional. Such a beautiful way to remember all the babies lost too soon, and to honour those helping bereaved parents and working to lower the rates of still birth and neonatal death.
The evening was full of brilliant live entertainment and lots of extra money was raised for The Mariposa Trust.
We won an award!
And yes we did win an award!! We received the Special Recognition in the Community Award Category! We honestly couldn’t believe when our name was called as there were so many other people nominated. The awards receive 100’s of nominations across the categories, from all across the county, so it is such an honour to have been recognised for such a prestigious award.
And I got to meet Kym Marsh!
And lastly the food!
‘How was the food?’
It’s the thing lots of people asked my about after I said the awards had been hosted in a blinking fancy London Hotel!
Haha! I know everyone loves a food photo, and I did originally share these on my instagram. Well the food was pretty delicious! A goats cheese tart for starters, stuffed chicken breast for mains and a chocolate mousse for dessert.
