We all want our homes to smell good, right? But sometimes, no matter how clean you think you are keeping things, funky smells can appear out of nowhere and leave the place smelling less than fresh. It happens to everyone, from time, but it doesn’t have to happen to you in the future.
Here are some very simple tips to get ride of bad odours in your home, quickly and easily.
Open Your Windows
The most obvious way to ensure that your home always smells pretty fresh is to open the windows for at least a little while each day. Why? Because you’ll let the stale air out and lots of beautiful fresh air in, of course.
Clean the Drains
Most of us don’t clean the drains until they become really blocked or they start to smell so obviously funky that we have no alternative, but they can become rather smelly long before that and that smell can get into your home and cause a smell with seemingly no source. To avoid that happening to your home, have the Drain Detectives check out your drains and unblock them before they start to get really bad. Oh, have your gutters cleaned while you’re at it too – moss, sludge, dead animals – they can all collect there and cause even more stenches.
Baking Soda Meet Carpet
Mix around four tablespoons of baking soda with 15 drops of your favourite essential oil and sprinkle it liberally on your carpet, Leave it there for as long as you possibly can and then vacuum it up. It will soak up all of the nasty odours that have collected there over time and give your home a naturally beautiful scent.
Simmer Some Spices
If you’re expecting guests and you want a quick fix that will get your home smelling really amazing without using any chemical air fresheners, which can sometimes cause allergies and often don’t even smell that appealing, place a few cinnamon sticks, some orange peel, and a scattering of cloves into a pan of water, bring it to the boil and then leave it to simmer for as long as you like. You can pretty much guarantee that your home will smell amazing.
Create Your Own Room Sprays
Alternatively, you can create your own room sprays by mixing two tablespoons of vodka with ⅔ a cup of water and around 30 drops of pure essential oil. Spray it whenever you feel like the room could do with freshening up.
Add Essential Oils to Your Vacuum
If you put a few drops of essential oil, like this lemon oil from Holland & Barrett, into the part of your vacuum cleaner that collects dust and dirt, whenever you use it, it will disperse some of that aroma around the home. It’s a really simple way to keep things fresh.
Get Rid of Clutter
How will this help you to keep your home smelling good? Because you’ll have fewer things to clean and less places for dust, dirt and other causes of nasty odours to accumulate – it’s that simple.
What do you do to make your home smell amazing?
