Summer Reads

I used to be a big reader (at least 40 books a year for the last 10 years) but this year I haven’t managed more than 3 because the pregnancy has just made me so so tired, every time I get into bed or curl up on the sofa to read I seem to doze off. Although I’m hoping I might manage a few more books once bean arrives, I am somehow doubting I will be any less tired! hehe! But, wishful thinking , that I may actually get the chance to read a few books, I thought I would ask a few other blogging friends what their favourite summer reads are and put together a great list of 20 books that you just can’t put down.

So here are the top 20 Summer Reads According to Bloggers!

  1. Bone by Bone by Sandjida Kay – Mary from Over 40 and a Mum to One  says “it really keeps you guessing and I love a page turner”
  2. Summer Sisters by Judy Blume – Anisha from Fashion and Frappes says “I read it once almost every year!”
  3. The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson – Cinabar from Foodstuff Finds says “If you like a thriller The Kind Worth Killing by Peter Swanson is about as twisty as a book can get!”
  4. The Chemistry of Death by Simon Beckett – Ange from Garden, Tea, Cakes and Me says “Exceedingly well written and I soon finished it in a few days, I could not put it down”
  5. Searching for Enda by Paul G. Denny – Sarah from Life in a Break Down  says “I think everyone should read it”
  6. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes – Jessica from The Life of  JKS says “It’s so breathtaking”
  7. Regina’s Song by David and Leigh Eddings – Fiona from Wishes, Hopes and Dreams says “Regina’s Song is my all time favourite book”
  8. The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice – Imogen from Imogen’s Typewriter says “The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice blew me away last Summer”
  9. Time to Say Goodbye by S.D.Robertson – Elaine from Entertaining Elliot says “Time to say Goodbye by S.D.Robertson is my current fave summer read – it will give you goosebumps and make you laugh and cry!”
  10. The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins – Jessica from Beauties And The Bibs says “I loved reading The Hunger Games series, a really easy read so can be putdown and you will not loose your flow”
  11. Shantaram by Gregory David Roberts – Laura from Mummy Lala says “A book I’ve read time and time again. Perfect for the summer as it’s filled with adventures. It’s based on a true story about an Australian who escaped from prison and spent eight years on the run in the Bombay underworld.”
  12. Green Beans and Summer Dreams by Catherine Ferguson – Rachel from Rachel Bustin says “It’s one of those lazy hot summer afternoon chic lit books thats easy reading. Its great for romance lovers and gardeners as well.”
  13. The Rose Petal Beach by Dorothy Koomson – Kate from The Less Refined Mind says “Fab read and it’s set in Brighton – what’s more summery than that?!”
  14. Best Wishes, Sister B by Fran Smith – Jessica from Babi a Fi says “It’s a nice light, heart warming read about saving the local convent (and is way, way funnier than that summary suggests) – perfect for holidays!”
  15. Appleby Farm by Cathy Bramley – Cat from Rock and Roll Pussy Cat says “Feel good chick lit which is easy to get sucked into. It’s perfect for a busy mother with little time!”
  16. The Island by Victoria Hislop – Heledd from Yummy Blogger says “It’s set in Greece so has a holiday feel but it’s also educational, based on a leper island that existed there… Great read! Honestly!”
  17. The Pursuit of Love by Nancy Mitford – Gemma from Fat Frocks says “The book is incredibly funny, Nancy writes with a great deal of wit but there are also some more poignant moments”
  18. The Big Lie by Julie Mayhew – Josie from Mumpreneur Inspiration says “I’d choose it for a summer read because, while it’s really thought provoking, it’s also quite an easy read because it’s original target audience was young adults (but it’s so good that lots of adults are reading now). It explores what might have happened in England if Germany had one the Second World War, I’m a big fan of dystopian fiction and this is one of the best I’ve read”
  19. Tara Kane by George Markstein – Su from Soosie Wales says ” it’s just a cracking story, well written with great characters that you can picture”
  20. No Plus One by Steph Young & Jill Dickman – Becky from Hectic Dia-BEC-tic says “a great read full of true life stories you could relate too whether you’re single or in a relationship, thoroughly recommended”

I don’t have a favourite book, I enjoy them all, and there are too many out there waiting for me to read them to ever want to re-read them. So my favourite tends to be the most recent I read, in this case The Time traveller’s Wife (I was very late to the party, everybody else read it years ago!)

I couldn’t possibly pick one book – there are so many great ones out there (along with some flops), I love some of the classics – To Kill A Mockingbird, Tess of the D’Urbervilles etc but I also I love a good crime/murder/mystery and James Patterson is great
