According to Bloggers – The Best Places to Visit in Wales – Part 1

I thought it was about time we had another instalment of my According to Bloggers series, and this time I have chosen to focus on travel. As the weather is getting a bit better here in the UK and the summertime is fast approaching most of us will be getting out and about in our local area or maybe on a little summer holiday, so I thought I would ask the blogging community for their recommendation on places to visit in Wales.

I got a huge amount of feedback with places ranging right from the very North to the very South of the country, from castles to beaches and local pubs to great shopping destinations, Wales has a bit of everything. I actually got so many  responses I’ve had to split this post into 2 parts. So this post is jammed with great places to visit in Wales no matter what kind of day out you are looking for, plus you’ll find lots of posts from the lovely blogging community explaining why they love these places so much and giving you some insider knowledge.

Nash Point: Gemma from Fat Frocks loves Nash Point, it’s a beautiful headland on the Coastline of the Vale of Glamorgan, with a lovely little lighthouse that people can visit. She had her first date with her Boyfriend there and thinks its the perfect place to watch the sunset with a loved on. Check out Gemma’s post on Nash Point

Ystradfellte Falls: If your looking for a picturesque walk in the Brecon Beacons why not take a leaf out of Tessa from Holly Sparkle’s book. She loves Ystrafellte Falls in the Fforest Fawr area of the Beacons. Check out Tessa’s post on the Fall’s, she even has a little video so you can see the falls in motion.

Roath Park: I spent my 7 years living in Cardiff right next to Roath Park and it is pretty high up on my favourite places in the city list, and Abi from Abi Street agrees with me, her ‘fav place always’!

Castell Coch: Leanne from A Slice of my Life in Wales adores Castell Coch – “It has to be the fairy tale castle, aka Castell Coch! I used to see it when we were on bus trips when I was a child and fell in love with it, many a journey back from Barry Island was spent staring out the bus window excitedly waiting for a glimpse! I’ve been there several times now and still look out for from the motorway.”

Pen Y Fan: If hiking’s your thing then Wales is the perfect place for you, especially Pen Y Fan as  Laura from CSI Beauty said “me and my dad and dog always go up there a few times a year and the views on a good day are amazing”. Pen Y Fan is one of the best places to visit in Wales if your looking for a great hill walking adventure, with the mountain peak being the highest in South Wales. 

Broad Haven Beach: Emma from Emma Withers says “I really love Broad Haven Beach in Pembrokeshire. Such a beautiful place”. Personally this wasn’t one I knew, but after seeing the pictures for myself I may be making a trip there myself this summer.

Aberavon Beach: Amy from Another Innocent Girl thinks Aberavon Beach is one of the best places to visit in Wales. She had this to say about it, “I used to climb the giant Whale for hours and my nan would take me at night and me and my brother would pretend we were climbing on the moon. Plus the best chip shop ever”. Now I live pretty close to the beach and also spent a lot of time there with my nan when I was younger so I’m with her on this one too!

The Potting Shed: When I asked Jazmin from All That Jazmin for her favourite place to visit in Wales she said “There’s a place near me called The Potting Shed which is a shop/cafe!…It’s just the cutest little place ever.”

Tenby: This is another place which would come top of my list, I have spent many lovely weekends in Tenby (and Saundersfoot) with my girl’s. It’s also top of the list for Jessie from All Things Beautiful “I’m sure lots of you will know about this beautiful little seaside town and it really is one of my favourite ever places; it’s so picturesque! It has two beautiful sandy beaches, a pretty little harbour, lots of little shops, pubs and places to eat and there is so much to see and do. I have so many lovely memories of visiting here as a child and it’s one of my family’s favourite places to visit in Wales.” She’s got some lovely photos and tips on where to visit on her blog post about Tenby.

Porthcawl Elvis Festival: I never even knew this existed but for Porcelina from Porcelina’s World it’s one of her favourite events of the year, every September! Check out her post if your an Elvis fan or just fancy a fun day out filled with music and sparkly Jumpsuits. Find all the info on the event website.

Cowbridge: I am a big fan of Cowbridge, especially at Christmas time, its just so pretty, as is Porcelina, she wrote a great guide to Cowbridge – places to eat, places to shop, etc. It is totally worth a visit if you like old-fashioned country towns, or just want a day trip out of the city.
