So this is our 3rd Degustabox and boy are we loving the monthly delivery of tasty treats. We have tried out so many fun things we would never have picked up ourselves, plus of course found a few things were not so keen on, but overall we have loved the majority of the items.
Augusts box was mainly about sweet treats, with lots of biscuits and cakes, plus a few healthier snack ideas. Below you’ll find out what we thought of everything plus my tasty Rocky Road Recipe using the Walkers Biscuits from this months box and the Fru Snax from last months!
Here’s what we got in our August Box and what we thought of it all.
- Dr Oetker Mug Cakes – I’ve been hearing all sorts of things about Mug Cakes over the past few months, but had actually yet to try any ourselves, so I got a little excited when I spotted these in the box this month. We’ve enjoyed testing them out but you’ll have to keep an eye out for our proper review later in the week to find out exactly what we though.
- Life Tonics – We had the Dalandan Orange flavour one, which was really refreshing over some ice on a warm day. Made using coconut water and natural fruit extras it has no added sugar or sweetness making it super healthy. I could still taste the underlying coconut water which I’m not the biggest fan of, but Jon drunk the majority it without even a comment about it, so we would definitely buy them ourselves.
- Ryvita – We had both the Cracked Black Pepper Crispbreads and the Sesame Crispbreads in the box this month. I can’t eat black pepper due to an allergy but I love the sesame ones! I like to top them with Philadelphia and smoked salmon, or mozzarella, parma ham and rocket, yum!!
- Barilla Arrabbiata sauce – The one we has was the spicy chilli one which again sadly I couldn’t eat, but I donated it to my parents who enjoyed it as a spicy Bolognese type sauce. They both said it was full of flavour and really rich tasting.
- Barilla Penne Rigate Pasta – We eat a lot of pasta in the Two Hearts household as I simply love it! Plus its super easy to cook into millions of meals. Half the box was used in a simple pasta bake and the other half was used to do my creamy summer time pasta recipe. The pasta was great, cooked quickly and had a lovely flavour and texture.
- Pick Up! Dark Chocolate Biscuits – I knew we would love these the minute I saw them, Jon loves biscuits and I’m a dark chocolate fan so they were going to be a hit from the get go. And I wasn’t disappointed they were lovely and the who pack was devoured quickly. Being individually wrapped was great too as I popped them in my bag for lunch at work.
- Choco Leibniz White Biscuits – These looked similar to the ones we often pick up in Lidl although Im not sure they’re the same brand, but the look the same. The white chocolate was a nice change as they are nearly always milk chocolate. We both enjoyed these a lot too.
- Walkers Biscuits – We spend a lot of time in Scotland so are pretty well acquainted with the Walkers brand. They always scream great quality, and taste lovely so some of these were enjoyed with a nice cuppa the others were used in the Rocky Road Recipe below! nom!
- Primal Pantry Bars – These are raw fruit and nut bars with no gluten, dairy or sugars and are paleo friendly. Now me and Jon have been eating Nakd bars for a few years now and these are similar to them, although a little larger in size and a bit denser. We both really enjoyed them and will be keeping an eye out for them in the supermarket.
- Scheckter OrganicEnergy Drink – This is actually still chilling in the fridge so I can’t really comment on it. It is a natural energy drink made with sparkling spring water, organic pomegranate, elderberry and lemon juice, raw green coffee beans, green tea, guarana and ginseng. I’m not a huge fan of energy drinks usually but rather the natural ones over things like red bull. I enjoy Organic Little Miracles so think this would be quite similar to them.
- Baked Bread Bites – these are tasty little bread croutons that are baked instead of fried, I’ll be using them in a special Caesar Salad recipe soon!
- Williamson Tea, Ginger Grove – This is ginger infused black tea, sadly I hate Ginger so these have been donated to a friend.
Rocky Road with Walkers Cookies and Fru Snax
Rocky Road Recipe
Ingredients
- 500 g Milk Chocolate
- 8-10 Biscuits we used the Walkers cookies, and a few digestives
- 100 g Mini Marshmallows plus some top decorate the top
- 2 packs Fru Snax we used the strawberry ones
- 100 g trail mix
Instructions
- Melt the chocolate either over hot water in a bowl, or in the microwave on low temperature. I use the microwave on 350w power and stop every minute or so to stir, until the chocolate is completely melted.
- Place the biscuits in a sealable sandwich bag, remove air and seal bag (or you'll make a mess) use a rolling pin/your hands/a wine bottle to gently crush the biscuits into smaller chunks and crumbs
- Pour the biscuits into the chocolate and mix well
- Add the Fru Snax, Trail Mix and most of the marshmallows and mix till combined
- Line a baking tin with greaseproof paper or use a silicon cake mould (easier to get it out!)
- Pour the mixture in to the tin and spread out evenly, it will be quite sticky and lumpy so you will need to push it down into the edges
- Pop in the fridge for a few hours, or overnight to set.
- Turn it out, cut into cubes and enjoy!
So there you have my tasty Rocky Road Recipe. Its a sweet treat that everyone will enjoy, plus its simple to make so the kids can help too. If your not a fan of any of the ingredients then mix it up a bit, try adding raisins instead of cranberries or ginger nut biscuits for a little bite. Rocky Road is such a fun snack that can be made with any number of ingredients.
We loved the addition of the Fru Snax which we had in last months Degustabox, they gave it a bit of a fruity flavour, and added to the crunchy texture nicely!
