Redecorating Your Bathroom: Advice On A Fresh Start

July 2, 2023 Chantele Leave a comment

Embarking on a bathroom redecoration project can be both exhilarating and daunting. However, with a bit of careful planning and creativity, you can transform your bathroom into a stylish and functional haven.

There is no one path you can take. Although, it does help to find some advice about how to approach a bathroom redecoration project. Here are a few simple bathroom design tips to help get you started.

Start With A Plan

Before you dive into the world of tiles and taps, it’s essential to gauge the scope of your project. Is it a minor facelift or a major overhaul?

As with any home improvement project, planning is integral to a successful bathroom redecoration. Keep in mind the size and layout of the bathroom, your family’s needs, and the overall style you want to achieve.

Bathroom Design TipsChoose Your Materials

Both the walls and flooring of your bathroom are going to have a huge impact on the result. It isn’t just the colour of these materials that make the difference, but the style.

Don’t shy away from experimenting with different tile shapes, sizes, and patterns. Also, try to remember that tiles aren’t your only option. The right choice of bathroom wall panels can also look great. These wall panels can sometimes offer more waterproof protection for your walls if that is something you need to think about.

Flooring

Re-doing the floor in the bathroom is often the biggest part of the project. As such, you should try and start with this part before you start putting in new sinks, cupboards, or showers.

Your bathroom floor needs to be both stylish and practical. Porcelain and ceramic tiles are popular choices due to their durability and water resistance. Alternatively, luxury vinyl tiles can offer a warm and comfortable surface underfoot.

Think About Safety

Every family will have a unique range of needs for their new bathroom. However, everyone can benefit from being safety cautious about a bathroom project. You don’t want yourself or any small children slipping on a wet floor after all.

While aesthetics is important, don’t overlook practicality and safety, especially in a space that’s prone to be wet and slippery. Select flooring with a good grip, especially for shower areas. Textured tiles or non-slip vinyl are also good options to minimise the risk of slipping. You can also incorporate stylish grab rails near the bath or shower, particularly if the bathroom is used by elderly family members or children. These can be seamlessly integrated into the design without compromising style.

Bathroom Design TipsAlso, Think About the Ventilation

A bathroom should be well-ventilated to prevent mould and dampness. An extractor fan is essential, but also think about incorporating a window, if possible, for natural ventilation. Although, the average person does not know much about bathroom ventilation.

If your redecoration project involves more than just cosmetic changes, it’s wise to enlist the services of experienced professionals. Don’t just settle for the first quote you receive, though. Shop around and get at least three quotes from different contractors. Check references and previous work where possible.

The Final Design

Redecorating your bathroom is an opportunity to create a space that is not only functional but also a reflection of your personal style. By carefully planning, selecting the right materials and finishes, and hiring experienced professionals, you can achieve a bathroom that is both beautiful and practical.
