Just incase you don’t follow my instagram (although you should!) I am a massive book lover and read as much as my spare time permits (which sadly isn’t enough!) Each year I set myself a challenge using my Goodreads account. 2011 was 30, 2012 was 35 as was 2013, and last year I upped it again this time to 40, and I just scraped that last book with a few days to spare. So I thought I would share what I spent my time reading (or listening to in some cases as I use audio books when I commute!) last year.
I’ve spread it over 4 posts as I thought 40 in one go might be a bit much. Hopefully I will inspire some of you to read more, or recommend a book you may love! So here they are in no particular order, it’s a real mix so I hope you find something interesting. (links will take you to the amazon pages if you wish to buy/download)
- Eighty Days Red by Vina Jackson – This is number 3 in the Eighty Days series, a bit like Fifty Shades storyline wise (not quite as heavy!). Summer a classical violinist receives a proposition from mysterious Dominik when they bond over Vivaldi. Ensue an intense affair, blah, blah, blah (ok so I didn’t love it!) But ok as a light easy read if this genre is your thing.
- Invisible by Cecily Paterson – Another easy read, I actually got this free on the iTunes store. Jasmine is used to moving from school and never staying put long, so all she wants to do is keep her head down and be invisible, but can she gain some confidence to come out of her shell and beat her bully’s
- Handle with Care by Jodi Picoult – I seriously don’t know why I put myself through Jodi Picoult books, they are always sad, but always well written! This one is pretty good, a mother is suing her best friend and doctor for allowing her to continue with a pregnancy which ended with her beautiful daughter Willow who suffers with severe osteogenesis imperfecta, her heart and head battle over what is right for daughter and what is morally right. There are a few great twists in this story, so if you like Picoult’s style I would recommend this book.
- The Restaurant of Love Regained by Ito Ogawa – This was a nice light-hearted read that I really enjoyed! Rinko is left deserted by her boyfriend, who empties her flat and takes all her money, empty handed she returns to her childhood home in a tiny village to live with her mother. Her passion is cooking so she opens a tiny little restaurant in her mothers out house, serving just one couple each night, and produces a menu based on their tastes and wishes. Just a simple beautiful story.
- 206 Bones by Kathy Reichs – I’m a big Kathy Reichs, and love her Temperance Brennan series, this is another of the ‘Bones’ collection (No# 12). Temperance wakes up bound in a dark tomb, she tries to piece together the events that lead to her incarceration and find her way out. Who is after Tempe, who wants her dead and why are they trying to ruin her case? If your a fan of Reichs or Bones this is one I really enjoyed.
- Count to Ten by Karen Rose – I hadn’t read a Rose book before, but I will be looking for another after I enjoyed this one. A murder mystery based around violent arson attacks, Fire Lieutenant Reed Solliday and his new partner Detective Mia Mitchell must find the culprits before they harm those they love.
- With my Body by Nikki Gemmell – Another in the ‘Fifty Shade’ erotica genre, but one I wouldn’t bother reading! So thats all I’ll say about it!
This last 3 are books that I edited and proofread for the authors, so I feel quite attached to them. They are also non-fiction books for a change!
- Art of Mindfulness for Children by Alisa Reddy – This book covers the 7 principles of mindfulness and simple tasks to help your children develop a mindful approach to life
- Mindfulness: Finding the Magic in Everyday Moments by Alisa Reddy – This book helps give you an understanding of how to incorporate mindfulness into your everyday life, to help bring calmness and an appreciation of the everyday world. It gives you practical tasks and ways to implement positive changes in your life.
- Late But Not Too Late by Dr Darja Wagner – A great book for those experiencing fertility issues, specifically about over 35’s but the tips and science within would help you at any age. Dr Darja Wagner has spent her adult life researching and understanding women fertility issues after experiencing issues conceiving herself.
Do you have any reading recommendations? Any books I should pick up this year and add to my 2015 reading list?
If your on Goodreads too feel free to friend me on the link above.
I think I can fully trust any Jodi Picoult book to be incredibly good. Great post girl, going to look up and purchase some of these! http://www.diamants-au-chocolat.blogspot.ie
