This is instalment 3 of my 2014 book List (Part 1 here, part 2 here), if you haven’t read those ones yet I am recapping all the books I read in 2014, hopefully you will see one that takes your fancy. I set myself a goal each year on my Goodreads account and last year was 40 books, which I luckily managed, and this year is the same. But for now here is what you will find on my reading list for last year.
- Linger by Maggie Stiefvater – This is the second book in The Wolves of Mercy Falls series. A werewolf version of twilight! Thats pretty much all I need to say. They are easy reads that I enjoy when I want some down time. They come under the teen genre and would be great for young teens who like werewolf type storylines.
- In their Footsteps by Tess Gerritsen – This is the 1st in the Tavistock family series, rather than her Rizzoli and Isles series which I usually read. Beryls parents died 20 years ago and now she wants to dig further into what happened. Sadly I wasn’t actually that impressed by it, I much rather her Rizzoli and Isles series.
- The Year of the Flood by Margaret Atwood – This was a random one I picked up as an audiobook as the cover looked interesting (yes I am one of those people!) and I was glad I did, it was indeed interesting, if a little strange. I don’t want to try and explain this one as it’s kinda complex, but its set in a dystopian time after a type of apocalypse. But who has survived and how will they help rebuild the world. It mixes science and religion is a clever and innovative way.
- Scandalous Liaisons by Sylvia Day – Another in the ’50 Shades’ female erotica genre, but I wouldn’t recommend it as it isn’t particularly good! Her Crossfire is much better and thats why I picked up this one.
- Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn – Ah the huge bestseller and total blockbuster! Kinda felt like I had to read it as everyone else had. Now it is a great story, but it was a little predictable and personally think it didn’t live up to the hype (the film was pretty good though!) Nick Dunne’s wife Amy has gone missing on their 5th anniversary and all signs point to something suspicious having happened to her. Can Nick figure out her treasure hunt clues and what has happened to her before its too late.
- Monday Mourning by Kathy Reichs – Another book in the Bones series. When the bones of 3 young girls are found in the basement of a pizza parlour Temperance must prove that the murders are newer than the clues are pointing to. I really enjoyed this one from Reichs, it is an early Bones book and I would recommend it if you have liked some of her others.
- Allegiant by Veronica Roth – I am a huge fan of the Divergent series so literally couldn’t wait for the last book to come out (I had it on order with Amazon!) This’s world has fallen apart and everything she thought she knew was a lie, but life outside her society is just as bad. It’s brilliant, and I can’t wait to see the next 2 films!!
- Six Years by Harlan Coben – You may have noticed I’m a big fan of Harlen Coben recently and have worked my way through a number of his books. This one is particularly good. It’s been 6 years since Todd watched his childhood sweetheart marry another man, when he sees her husbands obituary in the newspaper he decides to go to the funeral in a hope of seeing her again, but the window isn’t her. Everything Jake thought he knew about the last 6 years and the love of his life is wrong and he needs to find out what really happened.
- A Million Ways to Die in the West by Seth MacFarlane – This was another random audio book pick up, after I saw the trailer for the film, and oh my gosh its hilarious! So freaking funny, I literally spent the entirety of my commute for a week in fits of laughter. It is a bit slapstick, and is rude and silly, but my gosh its so funny. I would recommend it to anyone, and I would also say to watch the film which is just as funny! It is pretty much about the comical and ridiculous ways people could die in the old west!
- Specials by Scott Westerfeld – Number 3 of the Uglies series, and in all honesty my least favourite. Tally Youngblood is now a surgically enhanced Special in Dr Cable’s elite cutter team tasked with stamping out the rebel insurgents. But the cutters get stuck in the middle of a war and don’t know which side they should be fighting for.
