What to Pack in Your Car Emergency Kit – Blogtober 17

October 3, 2017November 1, 2017 Chantele 12 comments

What to Pack in Your Car Emergency KitIt’s the 3rd, and todays Blogtober prompt from Hex Mum Blog is ‘CAR’! Ok so I had a good think about this one and came up with 2 topics, ways to entertain your children in the car or what to pack in your car emergency kit. I asked some readers on Facebook and I was surprised that you rathered the car emergency kit post, which is awesome as it’s something me and Jon have been talking about putting together for a while. As wedding photographers we often find oursleves in situations where people need something in an emergency, not big things, but little things that are key or will help solve a problem at that particular moment in time. So we have been considering making up car emergency kits that will have all these useful important things in them, so when we are at a wedding venue in the middle of nowhere and the brides dress strap breaks we have a sewing kit, or the groom gets a splinter off a rustic bench we have a tweezers, you would be surprised at the things you can need on a wedding day!

So here are our key items to keep in a car emergency kit, incase of breakdowns or just general life mishaps when out and about (or if your a wedding photographer of course!)

A Good Torch – A nice heavy duty powerful torch is a must have item in case of breakdowns in the dark, or to see in the engine (if you knew what you were looking for in there!!)

A First Aid Kit – Either buy a full first aid kit or make up one yourself with plasters, bandages, tweezers, safety pins, antibacterial wipes, pain killers, and anything else you can think of.

A Blanket – Also in case of break downs, but also useful if the kids get tired in the car or have any toilet accidents and you don’t have spare outfits!

Bottles of Water – A million and one reasons to have water, not just for you but also for the car!

A Mini Sewing Kit – In case of clothes breakages when you are out and about…it happens!

Carrier Bags – Either for shopping, muddy shoes or for sickness incidents.

Emergency baby/toddler/kid Kit – So this depends on your little ones (if you have any) and their age. Thick nappies and wipes, change of clothes and some long life snacks

Hand Sanitiser – Just because! Lots of reasons to nee this, especially with kids.

Duct Tape – Suggestion from Jon as it is multi purpose. Broken wing mirror, smashed window, broken flip flop, etc!

A Rope – (another Jon suggestion) For town should you break down

Swiss Army Knife – (Jon’s last suggestion) Because it has lots of uses, like if your pram breaks and you need to screw it back together, or to cut something

Umbrella – It rains! Need I say more! There is nothing worse than getting caught in the rain when your out and having no choice but to go out in it.

A UK A to Z Map – Because god forbid the sat nav and your mobile are dead and your somewhere you don’t know!

So that’s our list for your car emergency kit. Pop it all in a box or a big tote/shopping bag and push to the back of your boot where it can stay till you need it.

If you love this post don’t forget to PIN IT!

This is a fab list. I usually keep spare clothes for the kids in the car, and a coat for myself. We must get a new road atlas too. I took our old one out when we changed our car and never put it back. It’s so old it’s probably out of date by now too. #blogtober

Such a great list! A map is an excellent idea as I think most of us just rely on technology right now. ?

Yeah there will always be that one day technology won’t work and the map is a good fall back
