Are Succulents the New Flowers? – Blogtober 17

Succulent planters

Today is day 6 of Blogtober and I am super chuffed with myself for managing to get a post up every day so far! I am linking up with Hex Mum Blogs #blogtober17 prompts and todays is FLOWERS. So go check out all the other awesome bloggers taking part over on her linky.

#Blogtober17

It used to be that people would buy flowers to decorate their homes, my mum would always pick up a bunch when doing her weekly food shop, and in my student days if I found a discounted bunch that still looked to have lots of life in it I would be super chuffed to be able to add a nice floral detail to our home for a few days. Or of course you bought people flowers for a special occasion or a nice house plant. We have bought all the mums orchids at one time or another and I have 3 dotted around our home still. But thanks to Instagram (#succulentaddict / #succulentfreak / #succulentlove ) I have been seeing more and more succulents adoring windowsills, bedside tables, coffee tables and desks and I might have fallen a little bit in love! Yes it probably is a fad and it is very hipster, but I love them, and I love the lack of upkeep they require. They are my type of plant.

So I have added a cute little trio of succulents to our bathroom windowsill, which you might have seen on our instagram recently. I actually managed to pick these up in Tesco of all places, and I’ve managed to keep them alive and growing for over a month now, which is great!

We’ve made a start on our big #konmari declutter to the house, we want to drastically minimise the amount of stuff we have, to curate the items we do have and generally organise our home and our lives a bit better. ??? I started with my clothes as @MarieKondo suggests and ended up getting rid of 3 huge garden sacks full of clothes. Most went to the charity shop but 1 bag went in the bin! And now I have folded and hung everything back up in a far tidier and more organised manner. Leaving me with 5 free drawers! There is still a long way to go as I need to do accessories and jewellery next, but getting the biggest hurdle over with has been refreshing and I can really see how it might encourage you to buy less in the future. ??? Once the bedroom stuff is all finished Ill be moving onto toiletries and beauty products and working at getting our bathroom decluttered and looking fresh. So in anticipation of this I’ve been adding a bit of greenery to our bathroom in the form of these 3 succulents. I’ve been fancying succulents for ages but didn’t feel I had a place for them. I have 2 beautiful Orchids on the windowsill of the stairs that Ive managed to keep alive for 2 years now, but I really wanted more greenery in the house. Hopefully these little guys will survive and I’ll be adding a few more to the house soon. ??? I’ll be uploading some YouTube videos on our #konmariemethod overall soon so swing over to our channel to check them out ??? #sparkjoy #sparkjoychallenge #decluttering #declutteringmylife #transformationinprogress #organiseyourlife #organiseyourhome #curatedlife #minimalism_world #letsgetsorted #homeandstyle #interiordesign #bathroomdesign #bathroomdecor #succulentlove #succulentaddict #succulentfreak #succulentoftheday #igsucculents #plantlover #plantstagram #plantstyling #homegarden #shelfie #shelfdecor #vignette #vignettestyling #ig_bbcc

I love succulents, I have quite a few… Word to the wise though, they don’t like kitchen bleach spray. One got in the way of my cleaning and didn’t live to tell the take unfortunately hahaha

Oh no!! Thats sad. I don’t have any in the kitchen yet, have two fly traps but I’m not loving them really so think they will be replaced with succulents soon. I am growing 2 of shoots from one of my bathroom ones in an egg cup at the moment so hoping I can replant them soon and have them in kitchen
