As most of you know me and Jon run our own business so have a home office (well a huge desk unit across the back of our living room to be precise), which can sometimes make work even harder, you have to be so self motivated to actually do work at home rather than going into an office. If your not feeling like working it is far to easy to procrastinate at home, watch some TV, potter around doing chores or just randomly surf the internet when you haven’t got anyone checking your browser or blocking ‘non-work related’ sites. Finding ways to keep ourselves motivated and wanting to work is quite important and we are always on the look out for new ideas to help make working from home a bit easier.
So today I am handing the blog over to Melissa from Purple Camel Media to talk to you all about how to keep yourself motivated at work and have a happier week at the office.
With so much time spent craning over a desk to get all of your responsibilities done, sometimes it can be tough to get through the week with a smile. If you’re looking for ways to have a happier work week, try these healthy habits and design strategies.
Set Up Special Deliveries
Treat yourself and set up some special deliveries. Are you a snack fiend during those long hours at the office? Avoid bringing in unhealthy crisps, candy, and other commonly reached for junk food items. The little boost of energy you get from the high sugar content won’t last long, and you’ll feel worse than you did before a mere hour later. Instead, set yourself up with some yummy but nutritious snacks from TheNutribox.com. This cool service will drop off a box of snacks according to your preferences every week (or at the intervals you prefer). No more hitting up the office vending machine and falling into the trap of junk food.
Get Organized
If you’re less than organized and tend to find yourself surrounded by clutter, you might not be realizing how much of an effect a messy desk is having on your mood and productivity. You’ve likely got quite a few office supplies sitting around, and if you don’t have the proper storage systems, look into varied options. If you have a small office with limited floor space, make use of vertical storage options, like floor to ceiling shelves. Companies like Habitat offer great, modern storage and shelving systems that will add to your office’s style. A desk with a few cubic feet of space could be perfect for stashing the books or contracts you need throughout the day, and their hidden nature makes this a secure option sure to keep all of your office valuables secure. At the end of each day, make a pact with yourself to clean up your space as much as possible. Coming in to a clear desk the next morning will be more than worth the five minutes you took to organize.
Get Active
Sitting at a desk eight hours a day can take a toll on both your physical and mental health. Want to be happier? Get a little bit more physical activity in during the day and reap the benefits. Each hour, make sure you get up and walk around the office, or even outside and around the building for at least five minutes. This little break will give your muscles a chance to stretch out and give your brain a breather. At lunchtime, get a group of coworkers together and go on a power walk around the business park. Having someone to chat with will make the walk more fun, and you’ll get a chance to soak up some of that all-important Vitamin D in the middle of the day.
Personalize Your Space
You spend the majority of the week at your desk, so make sure it’s a space that reflects you. It might mean bringing in photos of your kids, significant other, or best friends. It could be hanging up posters with pictures of your dream destination (everyone needs a little bit of work incentive), or finding interesting and unique office décor from a company like Touch of Modern. Injecting your personality into your office design can truly make a huge difference in your outlook and make the weeks fly by quicker than normal.
If you’re looking for ways to improve your morale during the work week, incorporate these easy habits into your daily routine and see the huge difference it makes in no time at all.
