A garage can be so much more than somewhere to securely park your car, safely store the kids bikes or pile all of hubby’s unused tools and random pots of paints. A garage is a vital bit of real estate that many people overlook, it can be the answer to lots of storage issues and a cheaper alternative to a full home extension.
Have you every wished that your home had a bit more storage space, a bigger attic or even an extra room, I know I have, plenty of times. Right now, during this corona virus lockdown, I wish I had enough space for a chest freezer, and that we had somewhere to store things like a paddling pool and outdoor furniture, we have neither for this lovely weather at the moment as we have no where to store them when they aren’t in use.
This is when a garage would really come in useful. Properly organised and fitted out with a storage system (check out Ikea for ideas) you can gain a huge amount of storage space by having a garage. But these days a garage can be so much more than just extra storage. I’ve seen friends convert them into home gyms (perfect when your in lock down and can’t use your gym membership), man cave’s with pool table, sofa and fridge (or teenage cave’s if you have one of them at home!) work shops for carpentry or other woodwork skills, even a recording studio by sound proofing the walls. Or my parents neighbour has recently had a kiln and pottery wheel installed in hers to have her own pottery studio at home.
If you currently don’t have a garage, but you do have the space for one, then I would seriously consider looking into the cost of building a garage as it may well not be as expensive as you think. Plus the benefits and the added value to your home, may out weigh the cost of building one in the long run.
