When you first move into a new place or you’re looking to redo your decor, you’ll often find that you want to put your own spin on things. A great way to personalise your home and really make it your own is to add character through interesting pieces of furniture or decorating techniques, this can especially be the case if you buy a new build home. So let’s take a look at three ways to do this.
1. Invest In Antiques
The very first thing you can do to really make sure you’re getting enough character in your home, is to buy antiques. New pieces of furniture or decorative items don’t always have the same look and feel to then as an antique will. So head to your local flea market, scour the internet, and visit auctions to see if you can pick up the perfect pieces to add character to your home.
2. DIY
Next, you could also look to really change the way that your home looks and feels with a little DIY. This can work especially well when your home is quite modern. If you want to work in some character, then things like adding in woodwork to the walls, dressing the windows, and adding in a different fireplace will help.
3. Look For Brands With History
Lastly, you’re also going to want to look for pieces of furniture that have character themselves. One of the best ways to do this is to buy from brands that have a lot of history themselves. When you can see the work that goes into a company, as in the infographic below, it shows you just what you’re adding into your home. And of course, brands and products with history always help you to add character.
