Homes have a tendency to get stale. We make them into our own, but just our tastes in decor change, so should our home. We tend to buy smaller things such as ornaments, figurines and little pieces that reflect our new style and place them around the home. But they are still overshadowed by the larger decor items that we have fallen out of love with. What kind of impact does a home that we don’t like to be in, have on us? It can very slowly bring our morale down, we don’t seem to recognize the things that are inside the rooms. The sofa, dining table, chairs, coffee table, wardrobes and cabinets are just not true representatives of what we like anymore. It feels like you’re in someone else’s home. So here’s how you should go about doing a decor overhaul of your house.
The Beating Heart
The beating heart of your living room is the sofa. The sofa has more of an impact on your style in the living room than anything else. If you have a sofa that you no longer want, you need to understand why you don’t like it anymore. Maybe it’s the color, or perhaps the material or just the overall design? Maybe you’d like something bigger or smaller, perhaps the style doesn’t suit you anymore? When you have noted what the reasons are, you’ll have some kind of clue as to what you intend to replace it with. Check out the different kinds of contemporary sofa styles. They do take an influence from modern sofas but they have better padding in the armrests and they are a little higher off the ground.
A Big Clearout
The bedroom is perhaps the other part of the house that you can’t stand being out of character for too long. But before we go any further you’re probably wondering what you should do with your furniture that you no longer want. You could sell it online or visit a carboot sale where you can use the weekend to sell everything you possibly can in one go. However you can also give the furniture away to a friend or family member who needs it. In the meantime, you can store it away using these kinds of small storage units. They are about the size of a one car garage, so they’re not overly sized for this kind of job. It’s easy to store unwanted beds, sofas and wardrobes in this space.
A Running Theme
Colour schemes are often the reason why people want to have a decor overhaul. Despite liking their fixtures, fittings and furniture, it’s just the color that doesn’t sit well. If this is the case, then you might want to consider looking at continuity themes for decor styling. You can still have the same kind of colour you want in different pieces of decor, but the materials differ making the room more versatile.
A decor overhaul is a big task in any home. It’s truly a changing of the guard if you will because most things will have to change. But don’t throw anything to the curb, take your time to stow everything away and make some money back from selling it.
