Healthy eating, whether you are trying to simply be more mindful about what you eat or you are trying to lose weight is pretty common sense – eat more fruit and veg, eat less sugar, drink more water – most of us just don’t actively chose to do it. I mean why is all the nice and tasty stuff is the stuff that is bad for us, chocolate, crisps, Chinese take aways, ice cream, fizzy drinks, etc.
Well if your trying to find a way to get some more fruit and veg into your children (or your picking eating husband in my case!) then I have the perfect easy hack for you…Fresh Fruit Smoothie Ice Lollies. They are totally yummy, naturally sweet and the perfect healthy eating treat to keep you cool this summer when it starts to get hot. Plus coming up with new flavours and combinations can be great fun for your kids too.
I managed to pick up a set of ice lolly moulds from a local poundshop, so I was all set to start making some tasty fresh fruit smoothie ice lollies.
To make mine I used:
- 1 Chopped Banana
- 1/2 punnet blackberries
- 1/2 punnet raspberries
- 1 cup mango juice
Just pop all of the fruit into your blender or use a hand blender and blitz the fruit all up until its completely liquified. Then pour into your moulds and pop in the freezer for a few hours until they are nicely frozen.
Now the only other tip I would say is if they are for kids (or the fussy hubby) I would possibly sieve the mixture to get out the raspberry seeds, I totally didn’t think to do that and I should have.
Ours turned out great, really fruity and sweet even though it was all natural. Even Opie enjoyed a few licks, when I had had enough obviously. It was lovely and refreshing too. Plus if your trying to get more veggies into your kids, then why not try turning a green smoothie into an ice lolly too? Blitz up a veg and fruit mix, maybe add some carrots, beetroot or kale to your fruit, I bet they won’t even notice!
