The end of last year and the beginning of this one was a super busy time for both Jon and I, as well as lots of photoshoots we both had extra hours in our part time jobs over the christmas season, this meant we pretty much didn’t get any time off over Christmas. So we decided to plan ourselves a little holiday at the end of January up to Scotland to stay with my godmother and just chill out for a week. We both love Scotland, and my godmother lives in a place called Auchterarder which is out in the countryside, surrounded by mountains and fields, so it’s very picturesque and peaceful, just what we needed.
As you can see it was beautiful and white with snow on our first day, so with cameras in hand (yeah even on our break from work we take a full camera bag with us everywhere) we ventured out for a walk and took some pictures of the beautiful scenery (and each other).
We just purchased a new Sigma Art 35mm 1.4 lens so I was testing it out on the nature whilst Jon was photographing the landscape. I love how delicate some of the plants are in winter, but that makes them tricky to focus on if your going for a shallow depth of field like these shoots, but I nailed it.
Then Jon got arty taking a few snaps of me, testing out how well the new lens worked (we are really happy with it!) And of course I took a few pictures of him too! (Hat was a christmas gift from my parents – Shruti) And this is where we stayed! The house in the foreground is my godmothers beautiful home, It was blinking freezing but we love it up there. Hopefully we will make it back again in the summer when its all a bit more green. It is a converted flour mill, so the big round turreted room would have been where the horses walked around grinding the flour up. We also took a quick trip to Glasgow for the night. I hadn’t visited the city since I was about 12 or 13 so didn’t remember much of it, and Jon had never been (we usually visit Edinburgh) so it was nice to see somewhere new and we did a few of the touristy things, like visit the Science Museum and the Cathedral, which is a pretty spectacular building. The city is a real student hub, with tons of interesting buildings and some awesome graffiti. After trying our first Five Guys Burgers (OMG awesome! expect a review soon) we spent the evening in The Stand Comedy Club, seeing Josh Howie, Chris Forbes, Jason Patterson, Katie Yossarian and host Stuart Murphy. I love a good comedy show and this one didn’t disappoint, the host and Jason Patterson were particularly good and we spent the entire evening in fits of giggles. Just wish there was a The Stand in South Wales.
Then our last 2 days were spent with these awesome girls! These are my godmothers nieces, Niamh and Freya. They are both beautiful girls, and both so lovely. We took them out for a mini photoshoot, which was great fun and we got some wicked shots (Jon will have a full blog post of images up this week on Cross-Jones Photography’s blog page). Here are a few of my favourites, it helps when you have such amazing scenery!!
And of course no outing would be complete without an outfit shot, so as we were out shooting the girls I thought I would jump in for a few too. An outfit Ive worn a few times before sorry, and the boots totally don’t go, but it was freezing and they are warm!
Vintage dress and belt, Firetrap boots
So thats a wrap on our Scotland mini break for now, we will have a few food related posts from there to come next week hopefully!
I can’t believe how different you look with the hat on! Just like I’d expect, the photographs are absolutely stunning, gorgeous!!!

Lol! The hat is bloody ridiculous! Mum bought it for xmas and I swear being in minus temperatures in scotland may be the only time I get to wear it, but thank you! hehe! The new lens is lush, makes everything so pin point sharp, and depth of focus is to die for!
These are stunning photos, and I love your vintage dress x

Thank you Laura!
I stay 20 minutes away from Glasgow so I must admit I take the city for granted and forget that there is much more to it that just the shops.
I visited the Cathedral years ago and I have always remembered how beautiful it was. Another stunning building is the Kelvingrove Museum.
So much choice in Glasgow
Aww we wanted to see the Kelvingrove Museum but couldn’t fit it in this time, maybe next time were up. The Cathedral graveyard is really cool too, as morbid as that might sound! lol!
Lovely pics 😉
