When we took our little recce to visit the West Usk Lighthouse (upcoming Wedding Venue we are photographing at) we decided to look for somewhere local to have some tasty lunch. After a nose on Trip Advisor I found the Cefn Mably Arms, which had had some great reviews and seemed to serve dishes we would like – and we weren’t disappointed! Here is our ‘He says, she says’ review and some tasty food pictures!
So this is what we decided to order: I had the Steak and Ale Pie with Chips and Peas, and Jon ordered the Cefn Mably Burger which was a beef burger with Welsh rarebit topping, smoked bacon and onion rings in a seeded bun with chips.
He Says: Ok, so ive ordered ANOTHER burger, I do eat other food honest, but I seem to have set myself the challenge of finding the best burger, and so far, this has stolen the title. I can’t be bothered with crusty buns that make you eat your buyer with a knife and fork, I want something I can grab hold of and take a man bite out of. This burger was full of flavour, the cheese was nice and strong to show through the taste of the juicy burger patty which was cooked to perfection. The seeded bun was slightly sweet and held together, no soggy bun here. To finish it off the chips were slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. This is one burger thats going to be hard to beat!
She Says: In in all honesty, I’m not usually a steak and ale pie kinda girl, I had seen their chicken and leek pie on their specials online and had decided thats what I wanted, only to go on the day and find out it wasn’t on their current specials. So as I had got the idea of having pie into my mind, I went for the other pie on their menu instead, and I am glad I did. The pie was amazing! The pastry was lovely and light and flaky, the meaty chunks were tender and there was loads of them, plus the gravy was thick and rich. You could tell it was a home made pie and not a brought in frozen one, it really was totally yummy! I didn’t manage to finish it though as there was so much! Their chips are really good too, as they are triple fried! We will be going back again soon hopefully as it was lovely there, properly country pub style inside too and set in beautiful scenery.
So thats what we though! Have you ever been to the Cefn Mably Arms?
Oh man, I am salivating, I love a good pie and burger!! Both those dishes look incredible and sound like they tasted it too. How sweet is that pub from the outside!
Wonderful review!!
