Capsule Wardrobe Packing for a European Mini Break

Well me and Jon are jetting off to Venice for a little mini break in a few weeks, it was a 30th birthday gift from my parents and it will be the longest we have been away from the dude, but we can’t wait to explore somewhere new.

We aren’t really fans of beach holidays, so much rather exploring cities, tasting new foods and immersing ourselves in different cultures. Venice wasn’t actually a city that was on our travel list of places we want to see over the next few years, so it was a welcome surprise to be going somewhere we didn’t actually know a lot about, and now we have started looking at what the city has to offer we can’t wait to go.

One of the big things you have to consider before leaving for a mini break to any city though is packing! We are actually pretty well versed at packing just hand luggage or 1 small case between us for city breaks after having done mini breaks in both Paris and Copenhagen in recent years. I find the most important thing to do when packing is to construct a capsule wardrobe suitable for the location you are visiting, and what you intend to be doing there. Here is my little capsule wardrobe perfect for a sightseeing mini break in Europe towards the end of the summer season.capsule wardrobe - packing for a European mini break

Lace Dress / Palazzo Trousers / White Top / Espadrilles / Cardigan / Floral Top / Jeans / Lightweight Rain Mac

Seeing as we are planning lots of site seeing, we will be doing lots of walking so sensible flats are a must, but I personally don’t like trainers and I want a pair that will go with all outfits I am packing. The weather is still warmish in Venice at this time of year, but does get cooler in the evening so I will need something to cover up with, but don’t like to take bulky coats if I can get away with it. So packing a cardigan that goes with my dress choice and a lightweight Pac’a’Mac or Raincoat is a must (unless its the height of summer and rain is incredibly unlikely!) I tend to wear my jeans and a pretty blouse to travel, then pack palazzos and a simple t-shirt for sightseeing, pop in a dress that can be worn in the evening for dinner and I’m good! Add a few accessories, a suitable handbag (or Ive been known to pack a lightweight cotton rucksack into my hand luggage!) and even a big sun hat (wear it onto the plane!) and your sorted.
