Opie Reviews – Pooch and Mutt Food and Treats

Pooch and Mutt Dog food

This little man has made a huge impact on our lives since we got him 2 months ago, so it is about time he got his own section on the blog too, so introducing…Opie Reviews.

First up is Pooch & Mutt. This great company is solely based in the UK (you know I’m always a fan of championing British companies) and produce natural dog food, treats and supplements, which are free from grain, cereal, artificial flavourings, preservative and GM produce. The companies ethos is to help dogs live a happy, healthy life by producing a range of products which are ethical and hand made with a unique blend of natural ingredients to help target specific problems in dogs.

As Opie is still just a pup they advised we try the Digestion and Wind dog food, as puppies can have notoriously sensitive tummies and often have very bad wind (we can totally attest to that, little man was so windy for the first few weeks we had him, it was obscene! lol!) The food is made from Scottish Salmon, Sweet Potato, Probiotics and Prebiotics, Charcoal and Psyllium, all of which have their own benefits for a dogs health and tummies (you can see more details on the link above).

So what did Opie (and us) think of the Pooch and Mutt dog food. Well he seemed to love it! The dried pellets don’t look that appetising in all honesty (totally forgot to get a picture of them sorry, but they are very dark and look a bit like rabbit poop! hehe) but he ate them all up. Plus he was excited to be fed so I can only assume that he really enjoyed them.

For us it was great that he seemed to like them lots, especially if they are good for him, keeping him healthy is the most important thing. Also a big plus point for us is that the pellets didn’t smell, as some dog food is very unpleasant! We also noticed that he did get less windy whilst on the food, and his poop got harder which is nice for cleaning up! The other thing we noticed was how shiny his coat is, it may have nothing to do with the food, but his coat has been lovely and glossy.

Pooch and Mutt dog treats

On the treat front, Opie got to try two different ones, Puppy Development and Brain & Train, both are handmade mini-bones. Actually he was so excited when they arrived that he walked off with the entire tube in his mouth, whilst I was trying to take the top pictures. And as you can see by the picture above he loved them, licking his chops§! We have been using both to help with his puppy pad training (we are up to 90/10 with getting it right most of the time) and general obedience training. He will sit, give paw and lie down so far (as long as he isn’t too excited) and we are working on stay, but that is hit and miss!

So we are now big fans of Pooch & Mutt in the Cross-Jones household, and Opie is very happy with his samples! Hoping mummy and daddy will buy him some more.

Aww adorable! He looks like such a good puppy, sitting for a photo with the treat like that 🙂 We just got a puppy 2 weeks ago, and we’re having so much fun with her!
