What the Kids Wore in Iceland – Cosy Layers & Fun Footwear from Grass & Air
When we booked our family holiday to Iceland, we knew it was going to be cold — but what we didn’t realise was just how much the kids would fall in love with the snow, the ice, and just generally throwing themselves into exploring everywhere with so much enthusiasm! Its a country that has captured mine and Jons heart (so much so Jon now runs Siren Adventures Tours taking others to visit Iceland) and we really wanted to share this magical country with our kids.
Effie and Elian had never seen proper snow before, so every day was an adventure — from walking behind waterfalls to splashing through glacier rivers. Thankfully, we had some amazing winterwear from Grass & Air to keep them warm, dry and comfortable. We were kindly gifted a selection of items from their new, fittingly named, Fjords collection to try out on our trip, and this review is packed with our honest thoughts after a week of putting them to the test in real winter weather.

Colour Changing Wellies – A Big Hit with Both Kids
Let’s start with the biggest hit of all — the colour changing wellies. Both kids were completely fascinated by how the raindrop print on their boots changed colour when wet. They genuinely made cold, wet walks more fun, especially when splashing around near waterfalls and glacier rivers!
We were impressed with how well the boots performed too. They’re grippy, waterproof, warm (thanks to a cosy lining) and didn’t cause any rubbing or discomfort, even after long days out. The quality is excellent, and they’re still looking great after a week of snow, slush and salt.
We’ll absolutely be getting lots more wear out of these back home, especially for family walks by the river with the dogs. If you’re looking for kids colour changing wellies that are practical and fun, these tick every box.

Matching Beanies – Warm Heads, Happy Kids
Both Effie and Elian wore matching beanie hats from Grass & Air in colours that perfectly matched their wellies — stone for Effie and khaki for Elian. The soft knit fabric and classic, snug fit made them an instant hit. Elian pretty much wore his the entire week — it was so comfy, he didn’t want to take it off!
The beanies kept their ears warm on some seriously windy days, especially during our walk along the dramatic black sand beaches where the wind really whipped across the shore. They also fitted well under their jacket hoods and dried quickly after snowy flurries and waterfall mist. A simple but brilliant staple that added a fun, matchy-matchy touch to their winter adventure outfits.
Effie’s Tracksuit – Perfect for Travel & Warmer Days
Effie’s rose pink tracksuit set (joggers + hoodie) from Grass & Air’s new Fjords Colour Collection was such a lovely addition to her Iceland wardrobe. She wore it on days when the temperatures were milder and layered it with her winter coat when needed.
She also wore it for our journey home, and it was ideal for the long car ride to the airport and the flight back — super soft, cosy and comfy, with no complaints at all. The colour is gorgeous (Effie’s very much a pink-loving girly girl), and it’s held up brilliantly after washing.
Effie’s Borg Fleece – A Winter Hero Layer
Effie’s Borg ¼ zip fleece quickly became her most-worn layer of the week. She wore it under her Muddy Puddles ski jacket nearly every day, and it kept her warm even during the coldest moments — from chasing her brother through snowdrifts to climbing rough paths up the side of freezing waterfalls.
The fleece is thick, fluffy, and lightweight, and it didn’t restrict her movement at all. It’s one of those pieces that looks lovely enough to wear on its own, but functional enough to be a genuine winter essential. A big win from both a mum and kid perspective!
It’s been one of the items she has chosen to wear lots since our return from Iceland too. Perfect for her to pop over her Gymnastics leotard after class, or pop over her summer dress to allow her to keep playing later into the evening when it gets colder.
Final Thoughts on the Grass & Air Fjords Collection
Grass & Air really impressed us with the quality, comfort and clever design of their winterwear. The colour changing wellies were a definite favourite with both kids, while the tracksuit and fleece layers kept Effie happy, warm and looking fab all week long.
